Terri's Story
Got married at a young age, married two years before starting a family. Divorced after three and a half years with a baby girl in tow. Husband had a serious drinking problem he was a mean drunk. Second marriage lasted twenty five years with one son from that union. During that span I went to college and got my nursing degree. I worked at Porter Memorial Hospital, in Valparaiso. Started out in Oncology, went to ICU, from ICU I went to 1-West which was a step down unit. After leaving PMH I went to work downtown Gary at Methodist Hospital in their NICU (neonate). After my divorce from #2 I moved to Texas and I've been here for seventeen years now.
All my family remains up in Indiana, that's the hardest part about moving away from what has always been home. I miss my folks, siblings, my kids and most of all my five grandkids. I...Expand for more
have since gotten married to a native Texan.
Boy I'll tell you, these native Texans think that they're a country all their own. They are one proud bunch of folks!
Fortunately my new husband had a daughter so I at least have a step child down here. She has blessed us with three grandkids so now we're up to eight grandkids. I'll tell you, being 'grandma' is so much easier and more fun than being 'mom'.
I retired when I moved down here but after several years I decided to go back to work. I went back to school for about five months and then went to work as a phlebotomist. There was no way I could go back to the stress filled life of a registered nurse, not to mention the wear and tear on your back from lifting patients. So I worked for a couple years then retired again!
So there you have it, my boring life in a nut shell.
