Terri's Story
Life
There is not enough room here to write my life bio- suffice it to say it has been a path of growth and discovery!! I had a baby a year out of HS (march of 86) so life took a completely different turn- for the better- it motivated me to go to college and do more than what I was doing. I started my associate degree at Brookhaven in 1989 and graduated with a nursing degree. Married at 23, had 2 more girls. Divorced at 33 (getting married in your 20's is TOOOO young!!) Met a great guy at the hopspital I work at- remarried in 2002, and have had another girl! Jordan, Eden, Hannah, and Maya. It is never boring at our house- lots of drama but they are all fun and beautiful.
School
OK- you all know how high school went. I don't remember taking it too seriously- unfortunately for me! But, had a great time. Life choices are what shapes who we are- I had a great time in high school. It was fun for us because we all progressed from elementary on to high school together- we got to watch each other grow and change from children to wild teens (some of us anyway). Everytime I go to a HS football game in the town I live in, I get all warm and fuzzy remembering friday nights at TJ's game- Sherry, Cindy, Mary, Kathy, and Denise yelling at me on the field during the half time show! What a blast-
When I go to my daughters choir concerts- reminds me of Ms Volk- ...Expand for more
what ever happened to her? She never did advance me to Acappella- I wasn't serious enough and was way too mouthy- so when my daughter made Acappella and went to All Region Choir as a freshman I was so proud (and lived vicariously through her I must admit) Great memories- How did life get so serious???
College
College for me was more work than play- I had babies and worked instead of joining sororities and partying- oh well. I finished my associate degree, worked in labor and delivery as a nurse, then promoted to nurse manager. I decided to go for my nurse practitioner (masters) degree, so I started and finished my Bachelors at TWU in 2003. I graduated with my Masters in August of 2006, and now hold the title of Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP). I have recently accepted a position in the ER at Methodist as an ACNP and am very excited about continuing my growth there.
To quote one of my favorite Talk Talk songs- "Life is what you make it!"
I truly hope life is exciting, fullfilling and peaceful for you all- if not make it so!
Workplace
I am still a trauma nurse at Methodist, Dallas part time, and I will begin my role as an NP at the new Methodist hospital in Mansfield starting in December. Of course the biggest job is the one with the most work and no pay- but very gratifying (until they are teens) -parenting. I wouldn't change a thing-
