School I went through school successfully as an above average student. This despite the fact that I have lived with Asperger's Syndrome all my life (high functional autism). My favorite teacher was at Mason Elementary School in the City of Saint louis. That was Miss Ethel Bennington in Room 204. Many students said she was the meanest teacher, but I needed the discipline she demanded in her classroom. I remember everything I learned from her! She read to us from Shakespeare, and encouraged the classes to purchase many books from the Scholastic Book Sales Offeres each semester! She taught music, and if one could not get those elusive high notes embarrasement was close at hand. I was one of those who stood next to the piano as she played, and when the difficult section came she jabbed her thumb into the small of my back (and others) running it up the spine assisting the voice to reach the higher notes! Using Classics Illustrated comic books I made a dozen book reports each semester wining her approval as a serious student! I really enjoyed every day under her tutalage.
