Terry's Story

I moved from Oklahoma to New Orleans in the middle of my 10th grade year. As some of you know, after high school I attended LSU and got my B.S. in Biochemistry. Though thought of by many as a "party school", I had to do my share of studying (because of my curriculum) and still fit in the football games and other events. I was actually planning on getting a PhD, but after doing research in the Biochemistry field during my senior year, I actually found it boring (perhaps it was just the particular research I was doing), and decided that was not what I wanted to pursue. I then did some research in the Nuclear Science field, which was more interesting to me. I co-published a paper with my Nuclear Science Professor (who was also the faculty advisor for Alpha Chi Sigma fraternity [professional fraternity in Chemistry], of which I was the Master Alchemist (President)) in the Journal of Radioanalytical Chemistry way back when, so at least I guess I can say I'm a published author. Big whoopi, right?? After graduating, I taught high school (Physics, General Science and Biology)for one or two whole weeks (I forget exactly how long it was)- - I was a scab at OPW High School in New Orleans during a teacher's strike. It was actually a lot of fun. I think the kids may have actually learned something, too. My old teachers who were on strike waved to me as I went in (in a nice way, not the one-finger salute) - - they didn't seem to be upset with me at all, and we were still on good terms afterwards. I then became a pipe-fitter's helper at an oil refinery for a portion of the summer, saved up my money, and hit the road for a 3-month tour of the western U.S - - primarily the national parks with some of the major cities in between, camping along the way. Lots of good photos and memories. This was the beginning of my traveling. [I have continued to do a lot of travels and still vacation and travel on a regular basis throughout every year - - I love doing nature photography both above terra firma and down below the oceans while I am scuba diving.] I've had a number of different vocations since then, including helping my eldest brother Ray market some patents he had designed and developed, heading up a grocery co-op, delivering pizzas, touring the world (literally) as a Naval Officer for 8 years [if you ever saw the movie, "An Officer and a Gentleman", that was being filmed while I was going through Aviation Officer Candidate School. My drill instructor was actually in the movie, as he was their technical advisor, though my particular class was not included in the movie.] I did get married du...Expand for more
ring that same time frame. Unfortunately, she was not the correct choice as a lifetime mate, so I am now divorced and still looking for the right lady to share my life and future adventures with. Though I have had some absolutely wonderful girlfriends over the years, the majority of whom I am still good friends with, I have still not found 'Ms. Right'. Other jobs included financial planning and investing, sales and marketing, including being VP of Marketing for a large window company in Houston, and my current vocation (which I love) as a Chiropractor and Holistic Physician. I have been doing that since 1992. Though I carry out my profession very differently from most Chiropractors, I have some of the best patients in the world, and I normally get great results for conditions that most other types of practitioners have already thrown up their hands saying there's nothing more they can do, which makes it quite fulfilling. I've had the opportunity over the years to work with and learn from some of the best manual therapists throughout the world, which has been an amazing journey for me. My personal belief is that we as humans should be able to climb mountains at age 100 (if we so choose), as long as we continue to maintain our bodies with the proper body work, get the appropriate nutrition and exercise, and have the right attitude. I actually am and have been very, very blessed throughout my lifetime. I love what I do, and get to travel and do other things which I truly enjoy. I have taken a good number of cruises with my family (parents and sister primarily, but also brother and nephews and neice, as well as others in the family), so I get to spend quality time with them and see more of the world simultaneously. The Caribbean is my primary home away from home, where I do my main share of diving, though I also love the variety of sea life found in the Pacific, probably even moreso (Bali and Indonesia, Australia, French Polynesian Islands). There was a Public Service Announcement which was prevalent, I think back in the 60's, which said, "Life - - Be In It". That really struck a chord within me, and it has remained with me ever since. Well, folks, that is my life since high school in a nutshell, though I'm sure I forgot a number of things. I may be a little bit older than the last time you saw me. My hair may be quite a bit less prevalent and a lighter color (we'll call it silver), but by life is full of great things and I have the energy that I did decades ago to continue to enjoy it. So, what's your story??? If you knew me from way back when, I'd love to hear from you.
