Thelma's Story
Shortly after HS I moved to the Orlando area. It was great going to Disney on the weekends and was excited for my little girl to grow up so we could ride roller coasters together. Her first ride on the Barnstormer let me know She was not my coaster companion. When she was around 3 1/2 I left Orlando to be with a man I met in the Bahamas when I was 15. We spent years writing LETTERS. I even offered to come work at his gym in No. VA. He went on to become Mr. DC and I stayed in FL. So years later he called me from the Orlando airport during a connection It started again. He was a yacht captain and for 17 years the three of us cruised many waters on someone else's dime. My daughter became an excellent mate and she and I transported many vessels together. Twice we each had a vessel to run, 3 ducks in a row. We bought a 50' GB and dreamed of living aboard on an island. My daughter got her capt...Expand for more
ain's license before her drivers license. We semi-retired and moved to an island in the Exumas. I worked the island and my hubby continued deliveries, a perfect scenario for separation. A man cruised in one day; I had heard of him as he was friends with the same Bahamian friends. We were never on the island at the same season until this time. That was 10 years ago and we go to the Islands every year. We both share a love for adventure and have loved NZ on two occasions. What I lost in all those previous years came rushing back when I went to a small reunion in Pompano a couple year ago. I LOVED seeing classmates again! I guess most people say their class is different but I can't articulate the joy I felt in seeing friends from so long ago. I am on the reunion committee for our 40th because I truly want everyone to feel that happiness. For what we are all going through now, more than ever.
