CAITLIN WILSON - JANUARY 07, 2016
âCarlow has helped me develop a sense of accomplishment and make friends, and the professors are tremendously inspirational. I am a better nurse because of it.â
After 23 years of taking classes, Terri Larson graduated magna cum laude with her BSN on December 18, 2015.
"At 57 years old, I still felt like I had a lot to give and I really do love nursing," says Larson of what may seem like a lengthy journey. "And now, I have finally done it."
In 1992, five years after graduating as valedictorian from nursing school at West Penn Hospital, Larson began taking classes in Carlowâs RN-BSN program.
"I chose Carlow because I'm Catholic, and attending a Catholic university was very important to me," Larson says, adding that "at Carlow, you get a well-rounded education with professors who want to see you succeed."

gram. Five years later, in 2000, she moved to Albuquerque to become administrative director of transplant services at the University of New Mexico.
In 2002, she returned to Pittsburgh and enrolled in classes at Carlow while working for UPMC Montefiore. But in 2008, she was diagnosed with an advanced form of bladder cancer which led to intense chemotherapy and reconstructive bladder surgery.
Despite it all, Larson returned to workâand to Carlowâin 2010.
Today, Larson is in charge of the live liver donors and transplant recipients that come to UPMC for liver transplants. She is also involved in teaching patients how to care for themselves while recovering from transplant surgery and serves as one of the program directors for lectures that provide nurses with CEUs (Continuing Education Units) and CEPTCs (Continuing Education Points for Transplant Certification).
"Carlow has helped me develop a sense of accomplishment and make friends, and the professors are tremendously inspirational," Larson says. "I am a better nurse because of it."
