Theresa's Story

My favorite motto is "Live, Love and Laugh". Life is good. Each day is a gift, and I appreciate it all. Still look forward to the next chapters in my life... Lived in Northern Virginia for over 41 years, last working as a Sr. QA Analyst for a major computer firm before retiring in 2007. Volunteered on a board of directors, and helped out troubled people and homeless animals. Having done work for 2 animal rescue groups, I'm currently owned by 3 kitties (lost one in 2007) and get to visit many more. If I could handle it, I'd also have a dog or two... In early 2005, like so many other women, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had surgery. It takes a long time to completely recover from that. My attitude is good, I laugh every day, and the good news is that I'm cancer-free!!! My very best friend, Dianne Winn Michienzi passed away in 2005 and I still miss her very much. It's been so good to be in touch with other classmates via email and sometimes in person. Old friends and acquaintances always mean a lot to me... one reason for joining Classmates. In 2007, I moved to Montpelier, VT to live closer to family. I lived across the hall from my mother until December 15, 2008, when she passed away at the tender age of 96+. I treasure every minute spent with her. I'm so blessed to have four of my original 6 sisters still alive and living not too far from me, 2 in MA and 2 in VT. I have one brother remaining, who lives in MA. In Montpelier, I joined a timebank, where I do things li...Expand for more
ke giving people rides, caring for their pets, etc. That accumulates hours that I can, in turn, use to acquire something that I need... just spending some of my hours for it, rather than money. I've mostly earned and spent hours on pet-sitting, which I enjoy a lot. This year (2011) I joined the Montpelier Community Gospel Choir which my sister Martha has been with for years. Not that I have a great voice, but it sounds okay when combined with so many others. The choir is not a religious group at all, having just a lot of people who enjoy singing. Also, staying in touch with friends in Virginia. I still have a condo there, thanks to the bad real estate market, but I don't think of moving back there to live. If VT freezes me, maybe I can thaw somewhere in the South or Southwest. The problem with that is my family remaining in the frozen north. Vermont is beautiful, though, so it could be hard to leave here at all. Haven't done much traveling lately. LOVED Ireland in 2002, where I went with some sisters and brothers-in-law. Did a lot of traveling through the USA during my working years, since I did computer installations in many states. Enjoyed seeing so many classmates at the reunion in October 2009. When did we all get so much older? Went to the 1960 reunion in Sept. 2010 and saw many people I hadn't seen for years and years. Taking life a day at a time and hoping for nice surprises at every turn. Guess that makes more sense to me than counting on winning a lottery!
