Theresa's Story
Life
Whazzzz Up from Hanford, CA!
I live in a small city in Central CA. Let me know how you are doing. I'd love to reconnect with old friends. I got married in 1997 to a really great guy that I worked with in Concord. We moved to the Central Valley to rediscover the quiet way of life that included affordable housing. I am a stay at home mom of Jacob (17 months). I quit my job as a high school algebra teacher to stay home with him. Nothing is more amazing or rewarding than watching your child grow and discover new things. The excitement nevers stops.
School
I'll always remember one day standing in front of my locker talking to myself about what I needed to do that day. Mr. Tellsworth was standing their listening to me. He laughed and I turned around a little embarassed about getting caught talking to my books. But he says don't worry it's normal. He adds, it's when the books talk back at you that you should be concerned.
College
After DVC, I tranferred to UCSB ...Expand for more
as a Psych major. It was so great there. Unfortunately, coming from a sheltered home life and really strict parents, I went crazy. I was on my own with no one to answer to but myself. I lived and partied up till I was on the verge of academic probation. I call my stay at UCSB a vacation because educationally I learned nothing but how to survive a hangover. Needless to say, I have had enough alcohol to last the rest of my life. I did not return to UCSB after my junior year but stayed home to go back to work at the grocery store. Life was so much easier. School was not my thing anymore. After a 10 year hiatus, I went back to college (Chapman University) and got my BA degree in Social Sciences. I then pursued a teaching credential in Secondary Education. I became a high school Algebra teacher. Who would have thought, me, teaching math. I never got higher than a C in math, and I usually struggled to get even that. I tell my students that all the time. It blows them away.
