Charles's Story

Hello to anyone interested, The Charles Thigpen of today is not quite the same as Murphy days. As someone once said about me is that I have good jugedment, my reply was "good judgement comes from experience and experience comes from bad judgement. I have had many enjoyable times since Murphy. Moving to Muscle Shoals to begin a business with my brother. After some time I sold my interest in the business and moved to Nashville , TN and worked wirh an interior decorator. Began college at the University of Tn. Met a lovely nurse and lied about being rich to convince her to marry me. She is still looking for the money after 42 years. The military needed my expert help and I was selecter by my neighbors, so the lletter said, never discovered who those neighbors were. After a while the army sent me to Viet Nam with the 20th Engineers at Bien Hoa. In '68 juanita(my wife) parents were killed in an auto accident and with only 51 days remaining on my tour in VN I came to live in Lawrenceburg, TN, where Juanita's family had farms and 2 brothers ans a siste I worke in retail management and Junita taught an LPN class. In 1971, began a construction company until 1975, sold the business and we moved to Cameroon West Africa, along withour 2 year old son, to build a medical clinic and operate a mobile clinic operated by the church. We came home after 2 years to resume work and have another son. I compleed my MS in techinal and vocational Education and taught in an area Vo/Tech School. We returned to Cameroon to begin an construction company, After selling that company, we returned and resume careers, Juanita in teaching nursing programs and I worked in a metall stamping and fabricating company, This company was involved in a joint venyure with the Soviet Union, as well as business with China and many other countries, I retired after almost 30 years and began an import business, importing horse tack and related items, as well as other items, We have travelled extensively and I spend about 3 months yearky abroad. If you have read this far, you are awarded the metal of bravery. I have met locally several Murphy graduates. Please write if you are interested to share memories and current news. Charles
