Thom's Story
Life is good. After my rather unceremonious high school career, I escaped the U.S. for Paris. My original visa was 90 days. I stayed for five years (legally). I made my living working in a funky used record shop above the Blue Note, ands wrote freelance as an "American correspondent" for the British music weeklies from 1977-81 (NME, Sounds, Melody Maker, etc.) I witnessed the punk and new wave explosions firsthand. After returning to the US in '82, I moved to Ann Arbor, and wrote for Rolling Stone, Spin, Musician, Village Voice, Creem, etc. and worked so...Expand for more
me funky jobs (from flipping eggs to delivering office furniture). I also worked as a music buyer at the late, great, Schoolkids Records in Ann Arbor. A first marriage (and eventual divorce) resulted in two amazing daughters who are grown and thriving.
I served as the Metro Times first arts editor from 1990-1992 and was then promoted to senior editor until 1997. In 1999 I joined the staff at the the All-Music Guide (allmusic.com) and have been here since. Remarried in 2009, I live in Metro Detroit.
I hope life is well with you. Thanks for looking me up.
