Thomas's Story
Life
From the communities and their differenet locations you can surmize I have followed my career and interest in moving about. My carreer as an conservation/enviornmental scientist is extremely relevant today. I chose this before it existed and told my professors at San Diego State Univeristy, against their advice, that I would make it work. At that time environmentalist were shuned and presented in a negative light (still goes on today), but we are optimist and lovers of life. We believe that human's can learn from our mistakes and to develop sustainable cultures. As I built up my knowledge and skills, I was also looking for an environment that supported protecting life. I found that with the Pacific Northwest tribes, whom I have worked with for the past 17 years. It is a wonderful and full life. As I am nearing the end of my career and in the process of passing the baton on to the next generation, hopefully energizing people to the value of protecting our living planet and all it's inhabitants. I do this at teaching via a variety of colleges and Universities mostly through distant learning.

unced around a few J.C. including 4 in the San Diego area until I focused on marine ecology. Then I obtain a B.S. and M.S. from San Diego State University in Biology. Migrated up to Bainbridge Island, WA and completed a Ph.D. in Fisheries. I still like the academic environment and have been teaching environmental and marine science at Universities in the Portland Oregon area.
Workplace
Mostly I have been a scientist, consultant, and educator working for private consulting firms, government and tribal agencies. I have focused my career on gaining knowledge about aquatic habitat and critical and endangered species that can be used by managers and policy folks to promote a sustainable future. For the past 14 years I have worked for NW tribes helping them restore their cultural and natural resources. The last three years I have run a consulting business and taught University science courses. At the end of 2004 I jumped back into full time work for the Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho where I am conducting Monitoring, Evaluation, and Scientific Studies to determine if their salmon reintroduction program is meeting its goals.
