Thomas's Story
The 2 years at Jefferys were inspirational to say the least. Having been transferred over from Downsview S.S. in the Art & Design Course, C. W. was the next step up with great instruction from art staff that came from Central Tech. I won a scholarship in my last year that gave me an automatic entry into Ontario College of Art/University of Toronto. Spent my 4 years in design, marketing, advertising, photography and painting. Had the privilege of painting and learning from one of the Group of 7, A.J.Casson, and visited his house in Rosedale to talk & watch him paint some of the paintings which are now famous. Upon graduating, I won the Governor General's Medal of Canada (highest award in Canada), and several other scholarships. Worked with several design firms until having my own, but am honored by having to design the Original Blue Jays Logo that lasted for 20 years (77' to 97'). er public demand, have gone back to my original logo, with modifications. Half the items on the food shelf that you would find in the leading grocery stores, I have had a hand in designing. After decades of design, decided to make a career change into mortgaging and business finance, but still desired the creative element. I have since taken up oil painting and has become an incredible passion of mine. I plan on having my paintings hang in the Hockey Hall of Fame, National Ballet of Canada, and Toronto City Hall. Collectors across North America and Europe own my paintings.
Earlier, I played pro lacrosse for Toronto, played competitive tennis across the world, taught skiing at Moonstone /Mt. St Louis for 5 years and have won a couple of dozen golf tournaments as golf is now my passion sport. Also, was a rock drummer for 20 years...Original member of Whiskey Howl, jammed with Bon Jovi, Rush, Triumph, Bryan Adams to name a few.
