Thomas's Story
OK, for those who are curious here goes: (Lord knowing I've always been long-winded)- While I was in school my Sr. yr there were several underlying issues going on at home which is actually no-one's business but family, I'm sure most of you-all understand...I was always outspoken, but that was just me, some of the females who've emailed said I was always a Gentleman: again raised by 2 Great Parents, "teach your children well" (CSNY)- I've always believed in The Lord, whether people knew it or not, just not into "Holly Rolling"- they say alot of boomers are Spiritual, not necessarilly Religious- How Do You Feel In Your Heart?? Your body is a Temple- You Dig? That's Me. Anyways, I got away from Warren 2nd Sem. my Sr. Year, probably wouldn't have Graduated w/ the class so I and several friends went off to Tech night school- actually got a Diploma from Tech (where my Mom & Dad grad in 39 & 40)-had my Dad's track coach for Boy's Gym (Reuben Belmer?sp?)-when I was in Boot Camp at Ft Campbell, Ky. I found out Warren sent Tech a ltr saying I was 1 credit short, & Tech sent a ltr to my house & Dad was mad as Hell & sent it back..b4 I got out of Boot I took ,my GED...later used the GI Bill at Mt View Jr College- Dallas, Tx. After FT Campbel I went to AIT at Ft. Eustis, Va. (by the way I lived at 860N. Eustis Dr.)-I trained to be a mechanic on The Iroquois Helicopter known to most as a Huey- while in Va. I took leave and my Mom passed in Nov of 68, that really sucked alot of the life out of Me, but from then on it was living the best I could in Her Rememberance...I decided not to take an offer from The Army & volunteered for the levy to VietNam...was gonna go anyway. While there, I was on the coast S. of DaNang, where I found out Tommy Gray & I believe Mike Hunt were at one time at the same time, 1969- one Hell of A Year in Nam, just look at the stats. I was supposed to meet one of the two, but it never worked out & only seen either 1 or 2 times since, kinda Sad as we were pretty close during our "best year" when were Teens: Hell we WERE Indestructible, What are You Talking About?? I got this Crazy Idea I wanted to fly, being in Base Camp & being a mechanic was boring, so I volunteered to get into the Flight Platoon & It was a Blast- met some of theMost Incredible human beings- a Real Brotherhood (ex- Band of Brothers- WWII)- then one bad Monday (later reffered to as "Black Monday)- we went off to DaNang on a Supply mission, late in the Afternoon we received a call to P/U some Grunts from the 196th Light Infantry near LZ Center in the Que Son Valley (Death Valley)- my gut told me something wasn't right, and Damned if we didn't land right in the middle of a Division of NVA/vc- what a Day will never Forget-( I ask you-all not to forget those who gave all, the POW's & MIA's also- we must never forget! Just saw an article on Kent State- what a shame...)-I was a Helicopter Crewchief- there were two pilots- ...Expand for more
(Main pilot & Peter Pilot), one Gunner & Me- Mr Crewchief, the person who mde Damn Sure the "Jesus Nut" was properly torqued-down & safety wired to Specs..I was the only one of the Crew to walk away, but not without much grief...(enough said)---The Lord is so Powerful...He was there for me when I lost my Mom, that day near LZ Center, & I've had my youngest daughter (Who really isn't mine biologically- but my name is on her birth-cert; and She'll tell you in a NY minute who Dad is...) go through a life threatening incident where some girls ganged on her & Ran her over with a car, then 3yrs later battled a rare form of Leukemia(she's cancer free now for over 7yrs, but just got out of the Hosp. recently after Her liver tried to fail) tough Kid Huh...Anyways- Rehabbed in Yokohama, Japan & came back to States Oct of 69, the Army gave us Convalescent leave and I was home until Jan of 70 then assigned to Ft. Hood, Texas, got out in July of 70 only to find my girlfriend was pregnant, so I moved to Irving, Tx--home of the CryBoys-, divorced in Jan 81 w/ custody of my oldest daughter who is now 38 & has 3 of my 7 GChildren...4f 3m...I have 3 girls so maybe my genes lean to making Girls, which believe Me ain't so Bad...Worked for Link-Belt, who I also worked for in Indy b4 Military, then for a Budweiser Distr., The City of Rockwall(Tx)- and finally the US Post Office...retired Nov 07 w/22yrs...Glad as Hell I got out...too much stress...work for an old friend P/T--work on my house alot, have 3ac, home & pool by myself it's alot of work but well worth it...feel extremely Blessed to have the life I have, along with good health, my Kids & GK, many friends, and best of all my Brother Tim (Guy) came down to Texas in 1978 for a visit & never went back...How Ironic!! Only been married once since- Sept 98 to July 99- divorce took 7mos- she lived in Mississippi & down there they are really assbackward & Redneck as Hell-to a point of being Ignorant...Live now in a small town Pop: 179 Miller Grove- approx 75mi E of Dallas up I-30...Have made a trip back to Indy almost annually & a few times more than once a year & took lng Vac back in 80's for Mos.- really don't miss Cold weather, but great to see family who were there for me when I came home from the War & were very instrumental in my Mental Recovery, because of that I never had any problems mentally from my exp in Nam...didn't I say "Blessed" B4! Have family in Indy, Danville & Lafayette- one of my cousins went to school at Lafayette Jeff w/ G&R lead singer..his name just slipped-away.. See alot of names here at CM.com, just would like to go back to say: 1966 and do it all over again...would change a few things, but believe I had one Hell of a ride so far and being raised in Indy was an Awseome Exp.---If anyone want's to email me feel free..I'll answer all emails eventually.....Sincerely, Tom Peanuts) Brown Go TROLL'S & Boys who Shave their Heads--- Later You-all
