Thomas's Story
It has been a gypsy’s life but satisfying.
Got my draft notice on my 21th birthday. Went to boot camp in Fort Leonard Wood Missouri in July thru Sept 1965 (Hot and humid). My Army assignments were 1 year in Fort Stewart, Georgia and 1 year in Fort Gordon, Georgia. Stayed stateside and no Vietnam tour of duty.
In August 1967 I returned to Sacramento.
In September 1968 I enrolled full time at American River College, using the GI Bill.
Transferred to Calif State Univ – Sacramento in September 1969
Got married (first time) December 1968 and we had a son in 1969 – Matthew. Marriage didn’t last and we were divorced in 1973.
Graduated Calif State Univ with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1974.
First engineering job with Bechtel Power Corp in San Francisco Ca 1974.
In October 1975 got transferred to Vicksburg, Mississippi. (Got to see the 1976 Bicentennial Marti Gras in New Orleans)
June 1976 got transferred to Rock Springs, Wyoming.
In 1979 I interviewed with Morrison Knudsen in Boise Idaho. They hired me and sent me to King Khalid Military City in Saudi Arabia.. Went to Europe for vacations, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and Netherlands and once to Hong Kong.
1980 I got transferred to Al Khobar Saudi Arabia.
In 1981 Morrison Knudsen transferred me back to the US, San Mateo, California.
I got married a second time in 1982. Had our 1st dau...Expand for more

Morrison Knudsen transferred the family to Boise Idaho in 1984.
In November 1984 we got transferred to Decatur, Alabama.
In early 1985, I sent my family back to Sacramento so my wife could give birth to our 2nd daughter (Jenee in April 1985) My wife is a Hiram Johnson High School Graduate (1969).
August 1985 got sent to Kansas City, Kansas.
June 1988 Morrison Knudsen sent me to Chicago Illinois.
In 1990 while in Chicago, I interviewed with Fluor Corp. They offered me more money and a transfer out of “high priced” Chicago and sent me to Dayton, Ohio.
In 1993 Fluor Corp got a big contract to clean up the Fernald Uranium Processing Plant in Cincinnati, Ohio and I got sent there..
In May 1998 I graduated from The University of Findlay with a Masters in Business Administration.
In 2006 Fluor Corp sent me to Ghent, Kentucky.
In 2008 Fluor Corp offer me a job in their Greenville, South Carolina office. My wife didn’t want to leave the Cincinnati Area because of the daughters so I went on a temporary assignment.
In June 2010 Fluor sent me to Aiken, South Carolina.
In June 2012 Fluor sent me on to Piketon, Ohio.
In 2014 I said that’s enough and retired at 70 years old.
By the way, my twin sister, Marie Carr, also graduated from Highland High School in 1962. She is now living in Soldotna, Alaska for the last 50+ years with her 3 children.
