Thomas's Story
when my Dad got me home I went right to my room and heard my Mom crying as my Dad told her of my deed.. it was 15 years later my folks told me what I heard was the two of them laughing so hard they were rolling on the floor in tears. Kind of set the stage for things to come, not all the laughter but the ability to stick my nose into trouble and force my way to my goals. A wasted semester at Univ. of Texas EL Paso, where numerous excursions across the Mexican border caused consternation from both the Border Patrol and UTEP campus police ( come on tequila 10 cents a shot, an avocado sandwich a nickel and tolls of a penny to walk into Mexico and 2 cents to come back, to declare your citizenship, total evening $1.08 just don't tell the Border Patrol you are a Swiss citizen they held me ...Expand for more
for 2 days beforeed me, they laughed like crazy too, very original they said). I then had a talk with myself and decided the Marines were next. My parents were pretty happy with the choice.
Enjoyed the Marines went to go to Vietnam. Standing in line with my buddies. my name is called for a unit assignment, all before me got a number I get a letter. What unit is Z? I ask?
Language school, what language I ask? Vietnamese you f__ing Turd! The sergeant bellowed and my fate was sealed. Off to the War College, Defense Language Institute West Coast Coast at The Presidio of Monterey , Classes for every branch of the military and every intelligence service, CIA, FBI NSA and other letters all in mixed classes. MY class had 9 Marines an AirForcelieutenant Colonel Air America ( CIA Airwing )
