Thomas's Story

Thomas “Tommy” Garcia passed away on Tuesday, October 13th, 2020, at home. He was born in Los Angeles but grew up primarily in Oxnard, attending public schools there and graduating from Hueneme High School in 1977. Tommy always enjoyed learning, particularly about science and technology, and attended classes at Oxnard College, Ventura College, and Cal State Northridge. He received his AA in Mathematics from Ventura College in 1980, an AS in Engineering from Ventura College in 1987, and an AS in Electronics with honors from Oxnard College in 1989. After he completed his schooling, Tommy worked as an electronics technician his whole life throughout Ventura County. His first job was with Data Exchange, in Camarillo, where he worked from 1988-2002. After that, he worked for various other companies as an Electronics Technician, most notably at Interlink in Camarillo for 9 years from 2003-2012 and again for a while in 2015. He loved his work, often telling stories of his work experiences and the friends he made there and also loved hearing about others’ Dilbert-like work stories. In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering with electronics at home and creating Electronic-based light-up toys and gifts for his family members and also selling them at local street and county fairs. Tommy loved everything science-fiction related, movies, and spending time with his family especially at Birthdays and Holidays. He p gcvfrh articularly loved Halloween and everything related to it! e of his favorite movies was an animated classic from 1967 called Mad Monster Party that inspired him to dress up as Dracula every Halloween night for several years, giving all the local trick-or-treaters a special “treat”. He also loved shopping for family members all year long and playing “Tommy Claus” at Christmas, handing out lots of presents to everyone. Above all else, Tommy loved spending time with his family and his loved ones will always fondly remember him as a sweet & kind person with a very generous soul. Family gatherings, which included not only his immediate family but also his Grandma Marie, Aunt Donna, and cousin Denise, were always made more special when he was around. After his father died in 2006, Tommy lived with and was devoted to the care and well-being of his beloved mother, Marieta, who just passed away last month. Tommy is predeceased in life by Marieta as well as his father, Thomas A. Garcia. He is survived by his brother, Christopher Garcia, and sister-in-law, Lucretia Childers, sister, Marie Lopez, nephews Brandon Hernandez, Skyler Garcia, and Zachary Childers, nieces Alaura Lopez, and Chandra Farber, and various cousins, aunts, and uncles.
