Thomas's Story

Life Hi there. Here are the highlights of what I've been doing since Provo High days: Mission to Hamburg Germany College: BA in English (major) and Folklore & Mythology (Minor) MFA-ish thing: Acting MA: Organizational Psychology Family: married Kristen Shawgo November 21, 1994; 3 children: Steven (8), Carrie (4), Tal (1) We moved back to Utah in 2002, which was the first time I'd been a real Utah resident since high school. We live in Alpine. I recently left a job at Booz Allen Hamilton, a consulting company, to open my own business, the Alpine Personal Learning Center, which offers personal and professional development services to organizations and individuals (sorry about the marketing-style description). Since high school I've lived in Cambridge, MA for 6 years, New York City for 5 years, Stamford, CT for 3 years, and 2 years in Germany, and the rest in Utah. One of the nice things about my most recent and current jobs is the traveling I've gotten to do. I've spent several weeks a year in Europe, had many trips to Brazil, several trips to Australia, one to Japan, and am about to make my second trip to Lebanon. I've been fortunate to have published a few books with my father, and continue to scratch my acting itch by recording books-on-tape. Krist...Expand for more
en is also an actor. We met thanks to Rosanna Ungerman and Grace Marshall, who roped me into being in their summer production of Barefoot in the Park while I was visiting my parents between years of drama school. Kris and I were playing newlyweds in the show, and ended up liking the roles. My athletic interests have changed since high school. While I was in college I did some rowing, which is a beautiful sport, and got a small taste of fencing, which is also very exciting. I've also become a fan of cycling. I continue to be a very aggressive reader, with quite a broad range of interests. During college, I focused on the British Renaissance (John Donne, in particular). I suppose one interesting specific event was that I was in NYC on 9/11/2001. We lived in CT, and I commuted to the city every day, but on that day I was out of the office, getting ready to present at a conference across town. Kris didn't know where in the city I was--I was a few miles away from the action--so as people called her throughout the day, asking if I was ok, she had to say, "I don't know" for the six hours it took for me to get a cell call through to her. Strange day. I don't know if anyone will read this, but if you are reading it--I hope you've been well, and I'd love to hear from you.
