Thomas's Story
Life
Presently I work for the Department of the Army, Civil Service. My job is in the Logistics Field, Transportation Specialist, mainly Airlift Planning, Load Planning, and Hazardous Materials Inspector. I work closely with military units in the movement of personnel and equipment by military airlift, rail, sea, and commercial long haul. I also work with Air Force Transportation Representatives conducting hazardous material inspections for airlift movements.
The interesting part of working for the Army is the chance to share and give back the years of experience and knowledge I gained throughout my Air Force career. I lived in Ida B. Wells up to the time I enlisted in the Air Force. As of 2008, Ida B. is no more. I remember many of the good times playing a game of baseball, softball, touch football, strike out, and ice hockey.
Every time I am home I visit Dunbar. Mr. Foreman continues to teach at "the Bar", as with Mr. Caldwell who runs the Alumni program. Two other Dunbar classmates lives here in the great northwest, Ronald Harrell , we are in the cross-country photo in my photo album, and Robi Grigsby lived here for quite some time before he was transferred to the Pentagon and retired. The three of us completed twenty year careers in our respective branches of the military.
