Thomas's Story
School
I absolutely loved attending Mt Vernon HS and Florida A&M University HS--made great friend and got memories to last a lifetime.
College
College education never ended for me. I earned a BS in Architecture from FAMU in '87, went on to complete a MA in Management from Webster Univ in '92, earned a Master of Military Operational Art and Science from Air Univ in '00, and finished a Graduate Certificate in Facility Management from Michigan State Univ in '02. I'm currently completing the coursework towards a Doctorate in Management and hope to complete those studies in the near future.
Workplace
I have over 25 years of facility leadership and project management experience in positions directing the planning, programming, design, construction, repair, maintenance, environmental stewardship, and protection of personnel and facilities at multiple installations world wide. I've also served as an Information Management for Facility Professionals course instructor for Michigan State University's Master's Level Certificate in Facility Management Program, and a speaker/instructor for the Homeland Defense Journal's 2-day Emergency Preparedness for Government Facilities Workshop.
I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Sutudies, a Masters Level Certificate in Facility Management, a Masters degree in Management, and a Masters of Military Operational Arts and Science. I've held memberships with the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), the International Facility Management Association (IFMA), International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM), Florida A&M University National Alumni Association (life membership), Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (life membership), Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and Toastmasters International. I currently serve on SAME's 2008-2010 Board of Directors, and as First Vice Chairman of the 2008-2009 IFMA Board of Directors.
Military
I entered the Air Force in 1987 upon graduation from the Florida State University Reserve Officer Training Corps program. My past assignments include civil engineering positions at base, major command, and Headquarters USAF support levels. I also held career-broadening assignments as an executive officer and protocol officer. I was promoted to the grade of Lieutenant Colonel in Feb '04 and retired from active duty on Mar '08.
Post-Military
I joined the management consulting firm of Booz Allen Hamilton in April 2008, where I serve as Director of Facility Management Consulting. My responsibilities include working with clients as well as managers and staff across the firm to develop vision, strategy and solutions that shape, improve and optimize built environmental performance.
