Thomas's Story

Life After high school I didn't quite graduate U of I at Chicago (then Circle). Kept repairing woodwinds, opening my own shop in 1976 (first downtown, then in Rogers Park by the Heartland Cafe), working for many of the best sax and flute players in the city. Went back to UIC and finally graduated in 1994 with a BS in math and comptuter science. Did a couple years with a flutemaker in Boston (Brannen Brothers for anyone interested) and in 1996 became a programmer for a small software developer in the Board of Trade building (software is mainly for traders). Now after most of my class has retired (I assume), I'm working for another trading compan...Expand for more
y (Trading Technologies) downtown. On good days it's fun. Still do some woodwind repair on the weekends. I still like taking classes and learning new things. My longtime partner Mari is a nurse and she has a cat, who seems to think owns both of us. We live around 22nd Street and California Ave. in Chicago (yes, by the jail - it's very nice). Have enjoyed traveling to Europe and Mexico a few times, and had begun to speak German in a usable manner before things got too busy a couple years ago. I had a great time at the 20 year reunion, but missed the 30th. Strange how everyone starts appearing familiar after about 30 minutes in the room.
