Thomas's Story
Thomas graduated from Central Technical High School in the Technical Chemistry program in 1963. He attended the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and graduated in 1967. His first ship was an icebreaker in Boston. After two Arctic deployments he volunteered for any ship going to Viet Nam. He deployed to Viet Nam on the equivalent of a destroyer escort and participated in Market Time off the coast of Viet Nam during most of 1969. He decided to go to law school while deployed. He was the Chief Trial Judge of the Coast Guard before he retired in 1993. He praticed maritme law in Miami for three years and was appointed an Administrative Law Judge with the Social Security Administration in 1997. He stepped down from ther bench in 2016 and is a Florida Supreme Court certified Civil circuit mediator and a qualified arbitrator.
He is married to the former Susan Elizabeth Joseph of Metaire, Louisiana. They have lived in Coral Gables, Florida since 1994.
He has a younger brother Steven who retired from the Syracuse Public School system and lives in Minoa, New York.
