Thomas's Story

Well it's that time in life where I'm going through boxes and finding pictures and other items to stir wonderful memories of days gone by. After Graduation from Our Lady of Victory in 1962 my parents moved our family to Rochester NY and I lost touch with all of my grammar school friends. But thanks to the internet maybe some of my childhood friends will remember me. When we arrived in NY, I was enrolled in the then brand new Cardinal Mooney High School. After a year of struggling with studies and fitting in, my parents pretty much indicated to me that I was not smart enough to continue my studies there. They thought it best if I went to a trade school to continue my education. To learn to work with my hands because they didn't think I could with my head. This is when I was enrolled at Edison Tech. Edison was some distance from our home in Greece and I had to ride the public bus to Rochester every day to go to Tech. This made it difficult to make as many friends as I had in grammar school, but I did the best I could and have fond memories of the friends I did have. I actually kept in touch with one friend from Tech until a difference of opinion about the last Presidential election, caused him to block my numerous contact attempts. ma from Edison after attending Summer school in August 1966, I headed off into the unknown future. By March of 1967, I was a parent and married. Later that year I started working at the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle/Times Union where I worked for 12 years, and meet some wonderful friends. By August of 1979, the feeling of an unfinished childhood in Southern California got the best of me so I packed up and headed West. I never quite made it to the LA area and only got as far as Southern Oregon. In 1990, I took a job transfer to Sacramento, California where I lived for about 6 years and met my current wife of 18 years. After dealing with the daily traffic jams, crime, crowds and the hustle and bustle of Sacramento we decided to move to peacefulness of Oregon. So here I am after 4 failed marriages, 4 children (one doesn't know I exist),I think 12 grandchildren and I'm beginning my twilight years, married for 18 years to a wonderful woman living here in beautiful Oregon. Spending my time digging through boxes of memories and beating myself up with thoughts of "what if I did this or what if I did that", but most of all, my thoughts drifting back to a childhood full of innocence, friends and wonderful memories. Thank you everyone who has enriched my life.
