Thomas's Story

Life I would have graduated with the Class of 1970 if my parents hadn't decided to move to Los Angeles in 1967 my 9th grade year. I lived on Cuba Hill Rd for essentially my whole life up to that point and I have such wonderful memories of growing up on the Island that I just had to put my name on the list for John Glenn even though I never made it to graduation there. Many of my friends still live there and I miss you all if you even remember me... the shy one. I graduated from Chatsworth High in California. After graduation I attended Pierce college for 2 yrs and worked the second shift at the Van Nuys GM plant as a welder. I married in 1972 for 3 years and have a son (Tom) from that marriage and he is now 33. In 1974 GM laid off the entire second shift. When I attended an art class at Cal State Northridge, the instructor was a storyboard artist at Hanna-Barbera Studios and he liked my portfolio and suggested I apply at the studio and so within 1 month I started working at Hanna-Barbera as an assistant animator in the fall of 1978. Over the next 20 years I worked as an animator and a director at many of the animation studios in the LA area. Some of the shows I worked an are the Flintstones, Scooby Doo, The Jetsons Movie, He-Man, Roger Rabbit, Mickey Mouse in the Prince and the Pauper, Rov...Expand for more
er Dangerfield, Duckman, King of the Hill and many television commercials. I lived for 13 years in Maple Valley, Washington about 35 miles Southeast of Seattle and worked in the computer games field as a 3D character animator/art director. I was remarried in 1991 and have an 17 year old daughter (Katie) and twin step daughters (Elizabeth and Amanda) 26 and a 30 year old step daughter (Christina) who has two little girls. I have our Chatsworth 20 year class reunion to thank because I met my wife (Karen) after traveling down from Seattle for the reunion. I didn't meet her at the reunion but when I visited my longtime Church Canoga Baptist (where I became a Christian 12 years earlier). When I returned to Maple Valley a few months later it was with a wife and 3 step daughters (am I Nuts???) No... I'm very lucky, it's a great family and God has blessed us. I have now moved to the Coeur d'Alene area of northern Idaho. The Seattle area had become more and more crowded and my commute to work slowly grew to more than 2 hours... I now work 1.3 miles from home, Ahhhhh now that's a commute. I am currently the art director/webmaster at Henry-Griffitts which is a custom-fit golf manufactuing company so if your looking to improve your game give me a call or check out the website at henry-griffitts.com.
