Tom's Story
Life
After high school and flunking out of Dickinson State Teachers College, Dickinson ND, I went into the Army (Oct 3, 1966). Yes, it is a date I will never forget, I was 19 and Vietnam was the issue of the day. While in the Army I went through officers school was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant, age 20. Linda Heggan and I married July 1967. I had orders to go to Vietnam September 1967 at the last minute my assignment was changed to Germany. Linda and I moved to Germany and during my tour in Germany our son, Chris, was born. In June 1970 I went to Army flight school, became a helicopter pilot and went to Vietnam. the 176 AHC in Chu Lai Vietnam in 1971 and to the 62 CAC in Da Nang Vietnam in 1972. After Vietnam I was assigned to Fort Dix for about 18 months befor I was discharged in Sept. 1973. After my discharge from the Army we stayed in NJ for a couple years. During that time I attended Burlington County College, received an Associates degree and then I went to Rutgers University, graduated in 1976 with a degree in Accounting and Political Sicense. I worked for Insurances companies for a few years in NJ, TX, NH, and CO, then I started my own financial consulting company. I've been in the financial services industry for over 30 years. Linda and I have lived in Colorado since 1992.
