Thomas Morsicato:

CLASS OF 1963
Ft. lauderdale, FL

Thomas's Story

Life doesn't always turn out the way you expect. When I first left FLHS I was still phlaling around to get out of the whoom or was that the room. In any case I didnt get the atheletic schorship which I really didnt desrve - so I ended up at Broward Community College for a short stay. What I do remeber about that time is rather schetchy or blured, and somewhat embarassing. Instead of studying I started a Faternity called EATA PI,and a Flag Football Team named the Golden Dollars or Trojans. Coupled with a propensity to drink a little bit to much Scotch and Party just a wee bit to mh my academic pursuits suffered just a little. It was'nt long before my young mind transended my superego, or id or whatever, and I decided there has to be more to this life. The problem was however I did'nt know whamore meant. Maybe I still don't. At that point I ran into some old friends, ie. Vic Johnson and Pete Nolan for those of you who may be familar with these wonderful icons of Ft. Lauderdale history, and we subsequently vowed to a tripartee agreement of sorts. I think it was Pete w...Expand for more
ho wanted to join the Navy to see the world, Vic on the other hand felt the Marines would be of a more long term benifit by finally making men out of us. On the other hand I offered a more pragmatic compromise, "The United States Air Force", my research indicated better food, and the uniforms were blue Flying L Blue at that. It is really funny - most of us can remember where we were when President Kennedy was shot - Well Vic, Pete, and I were at my parents house on N.E. 19th Avenue discussing our future plans in the USAF when the news came on TV. It was one of those moments which I will never forget. Sure the shooting of the President was not only historic in scope, but it was more than that. Here we were 3 boys who played little league baseball together, and the President of United States had just been shot. We all looked at each other in disbelief - the times were a changing an we could feel it to our core. In a little over a month we would be Soldiers. The world had changed I drove my Chevy to the levy and the levy was dry. ( Hopefullly to be continued)
