Tiffany's Story

Life well, i left San Francisco and moved, with my husband, to Bend, Oregon as of 12/04. we bought 10 acres and are currently renovating a very old farm house. i also left the public relations industry and am currently working for a title/escrow company here in Bend -- a very busy industry. the town is growing like crazy...everyone we meet is from California or has just moved from CA (mostly Southern CA)! i met my husband playing softball in SF Rec & Park league. i had joined a new team and was pitching BP. he, batting lefty, threw off my rhythm and i ended up throwing at him more than throwing to him. that was the beginning. 1 year later, we returned to that same field (Moscone #2) and he proposed - very romantic! he's a former Marine Sergeant with many friends still in the Corps and deployed at the front. we worry about them all and are so thankful for the email updates we get. since moving to Bend we've done many things I never thought this california-sun-loving girl would EVER do...like go snow shoeing. but, seriously, what a blast!! we had so much fun, we even bought our own pairs of snowshoes and can't wait til next winter when there is enough snow to go shoeing. and fishing, what a great way to waste a day in the sunshine!! we're enjoying the slower pace of life and the amazingly friendly people here. we're constantly laughing -- at ourselves -- all the time, when we complain about 2 cars in front of us at the roundabout, when we're not first in line at the grocery, when there is more than a one car wait at the million+ drive-up coffee places. we laugh and think, really? ...we just moved from a city of 80...Expand for more
0,000+ to a town of almost 65,000. are we really complaining about the traffic? then we realize how great we have it. we're excited about getting the acreage all together. plans are shaping up and i see chickens, ducks and maybe a sheep or two in the future. we're not "farmers" by any stretch, but farm fresh eggs are really great...so why not have them on property? Mike (my husband) bought a tractor and has definitely um...embraced...his redneck side. So far, the riding lawn mower is more my speed (only 4mph). we've joined local softball teams (of course!) and are enjoying the effect high altitude has on a fly ball -- only when batting, of course! the girls at work only gave me the your-from-california attitude for a week and now we're all best buds. i never, ever thought i'd leave California -- and, be happy about at it! but now, i can't imagine living anywhere else or with anyone else. we just had a baby daughter, Abigail Rose "Abby" - born March 30 - and she's already daddy's little girl. not much sleep at this point, but we are so in love! hope to hear from you all soon! 2/1/09 - still loving Bend, just accepted an offer for the ranch & moving into town. My Husband works at a local bank & I'm still working as an escrow closer. We are looking forward to less irrigation/animal headaches and more -- getting to know our new neighbors. We've gone snow shoeing again this winter, Abby wore her snow shoes, then decided she didn't like them and took them off. Turns out, she's so lite on the snow -she didn't need them. Anyway, we love our life in Bend - it's a great small town and a great place to raise a family.
