Tim's Story

Hi Everyone, It's been quite awhile since I have interacted with anyone from Antioch High School. The only person in the Class of 75 I am in contact with is Terri Cooper and I would like to be in contact with some of my 'old' friends. I left High School and got into lots of alternative stuff, health, nutrition the back to the land movement, etc. From the late 70's to the early 90's I grew medicinal and culinary herbs, and organic produce for high end restaurants and stores in the Bay Area as well as growing and selling cut flowers. I was a teacher, manager and co-owner of an alternative school called the California School of Herbal Studies. I was part of the medicinal herb movement which in the 70's was just a bunch of hippies hoping to change the world and now is a multi billion dollar industry. In the early 90's I met my present wife Heather and moved to a small town in NE Iowa, yes Iowa. I worked for an heirlook seed preservation group called Seed Savers Exchange before taking the job of land manager for Frontier Herb Co-operative. From 1993-97 I was the land manager for an Herb Company called Herb Pharm in S. Oregon. Besides farming herbs I also continued to teach people about medicinal herbs. I put on a few conferences and traveled around as the herbalist for the company. In 1998 my wife and I moved to SE Ohio and helped found the National Center for the Preservation of Medicinal Herbs, a non profit research farm focusing on native medicina...Expand for more
l herbs. I was also the herbalist/aromatherapist for Frontier Natural Products Co-op/Aura Cacia and when not too busy at the research center I traveled around North America doing seminars on herbs and aromatherapy. I took a few short breaks to run a few other small projects and worked overseas on some USAID projects on herbs and essential oils. During this time we moved back to a farm in SE Minnesota. For the past 5 years I've been the aromatherapist for Frontier/Aura Cacia, traveling teaching classes and other things for the company. I travel a lot, one year I flew over 300,000 miles, I get a lot of frequent flyer miles!! I teach all over N. America and do sourcing trips around the world. I love teaching and working with growers/distillers around the world. Along the way I authored a book on growing medicinal herbs as well as contributing to a book on conserving our native medicinal herbs. I'm presently working on a book on Aromatherapy but I'm finding little time to write so don't expect it out too soon. I've lived in Hawaii for the past few years after spending winters here for a decade or so. I still garden every minute I can but I don't farm anymore. I love to be outdoors, hiking, backpacking, snorkeling, scuba diving, and traveling our my favorite activities. I have been married to my present wife Heather for nearly 17 years and we get along great. I have a 31 year old son by a previous marriage and now have a 2 year old granddaughter.
