Tim's Story

Hmmm, where do I start? Been living in Morristown TN for the past 5 years and in Jefferson City TN for about 15 years before that. Used to live in Blount County for 5 years and in various areas of Knoxville since high school. Went to UTK, graduated in Bus. Adm. with majoring in Accounting. Been working in various plants and businesses since then. With the current economy, I've been seriously thinking about a change. I'm currently a substitute teacher for the Hamblen County School System. Been active in the Native American Community and doing the powwow trail for the past 16 years and in Boy Scouting for the past 20 years. Have made many Indian friends both in Cherokee, North and South Dakota, Minn. and Okalahoma. Lots of different people from different tribes but with very common interests. Have a great daughter who is a Nurse Practitioner and, she and her husband, had a son on Feb. 27. He's the first grandchild on both sides of the family. Needless to say, this grandboy will be having a motorcycle from the paternal side of the family and a tipi from me. He's already received his first pair of beaded moccs and beaded article. He and his parents have been attending the dance team/drum for the past several months. Have a great son who is a EMT in Jefferson County who just got married in December 08' to a great young woman. He's now back in school to become a para-medic. Been divorced since 2001 after being married for 22 years. Guess it was a time for a change for her. lol.. long story. Been dating since then, even someone from BHS, but been pretty gun shy so far. Wasn't in a rush to get remmarried. Back in December 04', met a woman who likes the Powwow Trail, tipis and me, so after dating for almost 5 years, we got married Oct. 2009. Life's been good so far. It's had it's ups and downs but mostly upward and onward. No regrets so far. I have found myself wondering whatever became of everyone after high school and if anyone plans on having anymore class reunions? This would be our 35th reunion. Anyone interested in trying to get one together? I've helped to put on powwows with budgets of $24,000 and with b...Expand for more
usiness budgets of over 15 million so I figure I can help out with a class reunion. Let me know in you're interested in getting a class of 74' reunion put together. Guess some more about me, after years of to much food and not enough exercise, the old weight got way to much (see the photo above). Since early 2008, been walking between 2 to 3 miles a day and losing weight. Done pretty good so far with the weight where it was about 10 years ago (lost about 75 lbs so far) and feeling much better, able to hike again and setting up the tipi without being winded. Still got about 125 lbs left to go so i'm thinking 2009 is the year for it. Been going to the gym, doing weights and still walking 2 to 3 miles a day. For the past year, I've been doing powwows in the southeast and upper midwest, doing tipi displays and competitions. Got 3rd place at National Powwow and usually get 1st Place in the regional powwows in TN and the surrounding states. Next powwow/tipi display will be in Chattanooga the first weekend in April 08'. I started powwow dancing back in 1993, as a Kiowa Straight Dancer, been an advisor and singing on a youth powwow drum since 1992, and doing tipi displays and competitions since 1993. Started gourd dancing back in 1998. Joined the White Star Gourd Dance Society out of Indianapolis IN in 1998 (that's what I'm wearing in the picture) and been dancing ever since. Even get asked to judge Native American dancers and drums at powwows because they know I'm not related to anyone there and I'll be honest and fair with my judging. Can you tell I'm pretty hooked on powwows and tipi's? I could talk about working as an accountant but I do that to support my powwow habit. Been told by some I'm obsessed with the powwow life. Been told by others I'm "enthused". I like being enthused better. lol, sounds better. Btw, has anyone heard from David Holmes, Martin Guthe, Randy Price or Chip Klaus? Used to go hiking or biking with them years ago. Just wondering. I can be emailed here of course or at twdbear on aol dot com make sure you say something about like Class of 1974 or something, so I don't think it's junk mail. ;-)
