Tim's Story
Life
Hi all. Well let's see...
I've been a professional communicator most of my grown up life... started as a reporter for the Oakland Press (five years) then made a brief foray into the creative side of my brain and became a pastry chef. That took me to the San Francisco Bay Area, where I moved back into communications, working for a global PR agency. Fast forward... in 2005 I left gainful employment (my last job was communications director for the American Cancer Society) to launch my own company, Hart Communications, an independent PR agency with expertise in food & beverage, healthcare, nonprofit and the arts. After about 18 months working from home, I recently opened up an office in downtown San Francisco.
Also... very exciting... my music career is moving along: I recently released my debut solo CD, "Five After Four," a collection of traditional and original tunes featuring the Irish whistle. It's a huge milestone (I lovingly refer to the project as "my life savings."). Don't worry, I'm not going to have my own reality show yet... as they say in my world, there are literally HUNDREDS of dollars to be made in folk music! :0
Other than that, loving life with my two cats in Oakland. Eternally single,...Expand for more
but then you never know... :)
School
My favorites probably still remain John Fundukian, a real coach's coach. Just a great guy and quite a role model. Also, Sharon Smith, who made being a geek just plain fun. Fondest memories still remain hanging with my Cross Country and Track posses (I vaguely remember having a 30-inch waist).
College
Wayne State was a funny place for campus life... which looked more like running from my classes to the parking lot to get to work waiting tables (love those commuter schools!). Editing the daily campus newspaper (still can't believe they let me do that) was my highlight, along with my cool internship at WDIV -- amazing how those two things have stuck with me my whole career.
Workplace
Talk about coming full circle... my first job was at the Walled Lake McDonald's (I should have known I'd be going into PR when my hiring manager said, "you know, I think you'd be good on the front counter dealing with customers.") ... fast forward years later, when I ended up with McDonald's corporate being my client at a PR agency in Chicago. I actually got to eat French fries at the HQ restaurant down the hall from the CEO's office -- literally the best Mickie D's on planet Earth.
