Tim's Story
After Graduation from OHS in 1963, I took a year off and lived in Palm Desert. There I met Cheryl White from Twenty Nine Palms. We married the following year, and then went off to live in San Diego, where I graduated from San Diego State University with High Honors and an award for the Best Student In the Department of Education. (Who knew i would every be a student!)
After Graduation, we moved to Northern California, where I took a job as an 8yh Grade teacher of English and American History in San Mateo. We had three daughters (Jennifer, Heather and Erin) in the next 6 years, all three with variations of red hair. I did a stent as a elementary teacher of grade 4 and then on to a new school to become a school librarian. I also obtained an MLS and a MPA from San Jose State University.
I served as President, Vice President and Treasurer of the San Mateo Elementary Teacher's Association. Unfortunately at this time, my marriage failed and we divorced. Fortunately I am still friendly with Cheryl and we did a good job of rasing our children.
Eventually I became an Assistant Principal at Borel Middle School in San Mateo. After three years, I was awarded a Principalship of Foster City Elementary School, one of the largest elementary schools in California. After several years there, I was chosen to be the Principal of a new school to be built in Foster City. I was given a year to plan the school and to oversee the building of it. Brewer Island Elementary School is a school of choice and we established a fine arts curriculum and ethics-based curricula second-to-none. I remarried another teacher, Mary Jo, who also taught in Foster City and we remain married today after over 34 years....Expand for more
In 1998, I had a heart attack while playiing basketball with some of my kids at lunch. After bypass surgery, I returned to work but never had the energy that I had before the attack. I decided to work a few more years, serving as Principal of Beresford School in San Mateo, but at 55 my wife and I decided to take early retirement.
After retiring we moved to Maui at Kannapali. We bought a beautiful house above the hotels and played golf, at the freshest fish in the world, and drank many wonderful Hawaiian concoctions. My chlldren began having children and my father turned very ill, so afte 5 wonderful years we returned to Calfornia i nthe Santa Maria area. Afte 5 years there, we moved to a golf course community near Sonora, called Saddle Creek. After a few years, we decided to the golf club life was not all we wanted, so a few years ago we moved to Lake Tahoe. We bought a small condo, then a small house, and this year decided to put roots here permanently by buying the house of our dreams. We live on the Nevada side of the lake in Incline Village, and we love it. In the summer we like hiking, boating and my jet ski. In the Winter, we enjoy the snow by snowshoeing and by cross country skiing. We love to travel and curise, and last year made our 8th trip to Europe.
I have 7 grandchildren, with my oldest at Cal Davis.
I still read a great deal of history and do some writing. I work for and belong to a number of Conservation groups and still have a keen interest in politics. I collect American political ephemera including documents and political buttons.
Life is good in the mountains! If you are ever in Incline Village look me up. We are listed in the phone book.
