Tim's Story

Life After graduation I went to Iowa State. I swam all four years. I was active in Letterman's Club, Forestry Club, Anti-War movement, the American Indian Movement, SPE Fraternity. During my senior year I was house parent for Farmhouse fraturnity. During the summers I worked for the Forest Service in Springerville, AZ as the Director of a Neighborhood Youth Corp project with Native American boys. I married Jane MacDowell in 1972. I graduated in Forestry in 1973 and went to work for Huttig Sash and Door in Sherevport, LA. Jane and I separated when I was forced to move to Tyler, TX. I left Huttig and started working several jobs. Coaching swimming at the YMCA,teaching PE for a Catholic elementary school, taking photos for local news papers. I divorsed Jane in 1975 and Married Dauna MacKeachern from Boston, MA in 1976. I addopted her three children Jill, Derek and Dana. I began doing construction work. Brother Kim and I work together for 2 years. I moved to Seaside, OR in 1980 to work for the Forest Service. It turned out to be very temporary. I became project superintendent of a $17.6 mil condo project in Cannon Beach, OR. Brother Daniel and I worked together for a while until I formed Krizan Contracting Co., Inc. and became the largest construction company in Clatsop County. I was active in city politics, was Chairman of the City Landmarks Comm., did Boy Scouts, became a Foster Parent, helped local swimmers, worked with Stephen Speilberg on 5 movies. Kids all graduated. Jill got married had 3 grand kids. (Josie and MacKenzie later Rachel) Life was great until one morning in 1994 in a valley 600 feet deep with 200 foot tall trees around I was struck by lightening. In 15 living in Seaside years I had only heard it thunder twice! No major appearent physical damage but a profound mental change. We moved back to Tyler, TX in 1995 and I took over managing my brother-in-law's 200 acre organic ranch south of Tyler. I became a Master Gardener. I left the ranch and went to work for a large commercial builder as a superintendent. I started coaching swimming and joined a Girl Scout troup. pendent contractor again. After a near fatal appendectomy in 2000 Dauna divorsed me. I married Barbara Ann Otto in 2003 from Santa Barbara CA. she attened the Univ of Wisconsin, Madison where she majored in biochemistry. She is a swimming and lifegaurd instructor amoung other things, with 4 kids, Byron,26, Andrea,24, Rachael,18, Jessi,15. The two yougest are Texas State champion swimmers. On Feb. 8, 2005 I went to the emergancy room with severe indigestion. I had a heart attack,(Caused by the lighting strike.) triple bypass and they didn't think I would make it for 3 days. They discharged me on Valentines Day and I still continue to amaze all the doctors with my recovery. My Dad "Hal" is in the Marshalltown Vets Hospital with alzheimers but doing incredile. My Mom "Lindy" is at Meth-Wick Manor in Cedar Rapids and doing well. Dennis is married and lives in Kansas City, MO and does consulting for the concrete industry. Kenny is in Iowa City (Coraville) and retired for U of I. Daniel is in Tillamook, OR. and is a State of Oregon probation officer, Kim is married and lives in Hide-a-Way Lake, TX he works as a building contractor. I am currently married with 7 childern all over the country. Workplace: I am self employed as a general construction contactor and do constuction, maintenance and landscaping. I do consulting work for Aqua-Rec, a commercial pool and public water supply system company. I work for the Henderson County YMCA Athens, Texas, as an assistant swim coach, I am also on staff with The American Red Cross and Saftey First Training Academy Tyler, Texas as a trainer, I am an instructor at Tyler Junior College in the aquatics dept. I coach an East Texas Summer Swim League Team in Tyler. I do volenteer work as a 10 year veteran of the Smith County Master Gardeners and teach classes on horticulture, Forestry and composting. I am also an adult volenteer for Girl Scout Troup 488, Tyler and Boy Scout Troop 369, Tyler. In my spare time my wife and I grow exotic ornimental plants in he front yard and organic produce in the back yard. I try to heal my heart (Becaue I am on the heart transplant list,) by swimming US Masters Swmming.
