Tim's Story
Life
High school was great. After graduation I spent a year living with my grandmother in Liverpool trying to figure our where I came from and what to do next. I returned and accepted a soccer scholarship to attend Div ll soccer powerhouse CAL STATE Hayward graduating in 1984 with a Bachelors in Business. Although I was not a stellar student at CHS (5 PE classes and an Outdoor Living class my senior year), I figured out quickly that college life was too much fun not to continue and selected St Thomas University in Miami (a leading Masters program in the field of Sports Business) to further my education. I graduated in 1986 and waited for the job offers to come pouring in. I waited and I waited and I waited. After almost a year I abandoned my dream of working in sports mgmt and started sending resumes to anyone who would pay attention. Divine intervention appeared when I answered an ad in The Oregonian for marketing. A rep at 'Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus' and 'Walt Disney on Ice' called for an interview and my first thought was....this has to be a prank from my not always funny former college roommates. I soon realized this was meant to be and ran off and joined the circus (and ice shows) as an advance promoter traveling the USA and working in cities such as San Deigo, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Chicago, LA, NY and best of all Portland. Coming back to Portland's Memorial Coliseum with the circus and ice shows was always a thrill. It was a great ride. Six y...Expand for more
ears later I moved to Chicago to become VP of Events and Mktg for Ogden Entertainment a leading worldwide public arena/stadium/theatre facility mgmt company which took me to places such as Europe and South America. Helping to open a new 15,000 seat arena in Manchester England (only 25 miles from Liverpool and extended family) was a highlight. Six years later I started a promoter/production live entertainment company (concerts, sports, broadway) which I later sold to Clear Channel Communications. After a breather I started an artist management company called Liverpool Productions which I continue to operate today from Arizona and Chicago. My first mgmt client was and still is Dennis DeYoung the lead singer and songwriter from STYX. While in high school, I remember vividly (even though slightly impaired) going to watch Dennis and STYX with several friends (always it seemed from the last rows of the Coliseum). To work with Dennis some 30 years later and to share stories from my CHS youth about growing up and attending his concerts with Jeff Brubaker, Matt Engels, Doug Swain, Loren Sharp, Mark Rowlands, Jimmy Stringer, Bill Dunlap, Cory Cox, is weird to say the least. Bringing Dennis back to Portland in 2004 to perform in front of many of these same friends was a highlight. It reminds me of the circles in life and how they all somehow connect. I live with the hope that there are many more yet to come. Its been an exciting ride and I would not want to change a thing.
