Tim's Story

Okay, here we go....... After leaving High School, my dad and I started a paralegal business, which I stuck with for 15 years, then sold the business to my brother. Shortly after my dad's death in 1994, my mother and I moved to Northeast Tennessee, where I lived since late 1995. Upon moving to Tennessee, I became a restaurant chef. Cooking has been the only serious hobby I've had since my kid-days, and I wanted to find out if I had enough game to do it for a living. I did, and had a blast at it! In the summer of 2006, I began to get very sick, very suddenly. I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, advanced emphysema, COPD, rheumatoid arthritis, congestive heart failure, severe depressive disorder and anxiety. I've not been able to work since October of 2006. My mother, who had been in very poor health since I was very small, was living with me, and I was her primary caregiver...until I became so sick I couldn't take care of her at home. She had to go to a nursing home, and died quite suddenly of a massive stroke five months later. During those 5 months, I had been living on her Social Security disability, and of course, when she died, the money was cut off. As a result of having no income, I lost my house (which I was buying), most of what was in it, and was on the ragged edge of being homeless. Thanks to God, and two very dear friends of mine, Maurice and Barbara Duval, they gave me and my cat, Miss Bibbs, a place to stay in their home, and we were there from May 4th, 2007, until October 19th, 2009. These days, as my health continues to slowly fail, I have become an ordained minister and online activist, and spend most of my time at Care2.com, which is a social-networking website with over 13 million members. It is geared toward the liberal and very-liberal among us...I fit into the latter category. Please feel free to have a look at my profile page. Search for me under "Pastor Tim Redfern". being a chef, I never married, and of course, I have no children, expect for my 9 year old cat, Miss Bibbs. It was in late 2008, at Care2.com, I met a lady in Missouri, named Jillyanne Michelle Cape. In November 2008, Jill read a blog I had written at Care2. A month later, she sent me a private message requesting that I call her, which I did. Before long, Jill and I were talking on the phone every day, sometimes for many hours at a stretch. By the Spring of 2009, we'd fallen in love, without ever expecting to! I was approved for Social Security disability on August 24, 2009, and began to recieve my back pay in early October 2009. It was then that Jill invited me to move in with her, which I did on October 19, 2009. Neither Jill nor I have ever been married, nor have either of us been in a long-term successful relationship. This is a first for us both. She & I are the same age. So, I'm now living in Sweet Springs, Missouri, a (tiny) town about 70 miles east of Kansas City, and loving every minute of it. On Christmas night 2009, I asked Jill to marry me, gave her my mother's engagement ring from 1956, and she (Jill) said 'yes' with no hesitation at all! We are now married. I sincerely hope some of my friends from Huntington Park High School will find my profile and contact me. It would be wonderful to re-connect with some dear friends I've not seen in 30 years! Spiritually, I am a disciple of Jesus the Christ, as well as being slightly Wiccan/Pagan, with a bit of Buddhist philosophy in there, too. I am an ordained minister, and formally go by the title of "Pastor Tim Redfern". My spiritualism and faith are extremely important to me, and I take them very seriously. Well, that's about it for me these days. Despite my health, I am at peace with my friends and the world, and all-in-all, I've got a good life. I have no complaints, no regrets, no secrets, and nothing to hide. I wish you all peace, love and blessings! "My love in Christ Jesus be with you all." -1st Corinthians 16:24
