Timothy's Story

Life After graduating in 1971 I went to Wofford College. I completed one year at Wofford and then transferred to Stetson University in DeLand, FL. I should have graduated in 1975, but had the opportunity to run for the top spot in a fraternity (Sigma Nu). The term ran from January to December. I was fortunate to win the election, so I finished my degree program (Finance) in December of 1975. Since Stetson did not have a December graduation, I am part of the class of 1976. Prior to the actual graduation ceremony I took a job (Sales Trainee) with Deluxe Check Printers in their Jacksonville, FL facility. I trained there until they transferred me to a sales territory in Alabama. I lived in Birmingham for a couple of years calling on customers in the northern half of the state. I transferred to Atlanta with Deluxe in 1979. At that point I was looking for an opportunity in management. When I found none I got a Georgia Residential Real Estate license and began selling real estate in 1980. With interest rates topping out at 16 and 17% it was a tough market to sell homes. Deluxe called and asked me to come back. I went back in May of 1980 and worked as a manager in their Atlanta (Tucker) facility through 1988. 1980 was also the year that I met and married my wife Francy. She had been divorced for about a year and had a 10 year old son, Jason. We got married on 11-8-1980; a day that lives in infamy with University of Georgia fans. I tell the story that I started knocking on doors in the community (Hidden Hills) until I found a single women. She happened to be living in the 5th house from the entrance of the S/D. It was one of a few subdivisions in DeKalb County that had a golf course, a pool and tennis courts. On 1-1-83 our son Andrew was born. Francy was a tennis player, not a golfer; so I started playing tennis. I played in ALTA (Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association) for about 12 years. Francy played a fe...Expand for more
w years longer. I quit when the only day she, Andrew or I was not playing tennis was Friday. Andrew was also a swimmer. He went to Brookwood High School (at that time the largest high school in Georgia) and graduated in 2001. He earned the Hope Scholarship, but decided to go to Lanier Technical School in Gainesville, GA. There he earned a degree in Motorsports Vehicle Technology, received a job offer from Petty Enterprises in Charlotte, NC (in their engine shop), but did not want to move to Charlotte. He then went to Gwinnett Technical School and started a degree program in Commercial Construction Managment. He finished one year and hopes to go back for the second. He didn't start his second year when he decided to get married. He married Kim DiNardo in June of 2006. They live in Loganville (about 20 minutes away) and have a four legged "child" (Yorkie) that Francy watches everyday. Francy works (when she wants to) as a Special Education Para-professional at Brookwood Elementary. I spent the first 20 years of my career in the printing business. Since 1996 (the year we moved to Gwinnett County) I have worked as an outside sales representative for several automotive parts distributors in Metro Atlanta. Currently I cover a Gainesville and an Alpharetta/Roswell territory. Jason, Francy's son, recently turned 38 and is still unmarried. It looks like Andrew may come through with the first grandchildren. My parents live in Vero Beach, FL. Francy's parents have passed away. My brother Mac died in an automobile accident in October of 1982 while Francy was pregnant with Andrew. Francy has a married sister (DINKS - double income no kids) in California and my step brother Dave also lives in Vero Beach. He is married with four children and 8 grandchildren. That pretty well covers my life since leaving Florence in 1971. I had two great years at Byrnes, but "life" moves you around and my home is now Atlanta.
