Timothy's Story
Life
After High School, I attended San Jose State University for a while, but dropped out in 1991 to work full time. After a few odd jobs, I started working my way into the electronics industry. In 1996, I managed to get Seagate Technology (the world's #1 disk drive manufacturer) to look past the fact I didn't have a college degree. They hired me as a Software Engineer, and I've been with them ever since.
In 1997 I transferred to a Seagate disc drive factory in Malaysia to provide on-site support and training for some process automation software I had written. I lived in South East Asia for two and a half years, and I met my wife Joo Gaik while I was there. Seagate shut down the Malaysia factory,...Expand for more
and we moved back to Colorado in 2000. Our daughter Evelyn was born in 2004.
In 2001, the death of my father prompted me to go back to school part time and finished my degree (while still working full time at Seagate - ouch!). I stuck with it this time, and I received my Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Colorado State University in 2005. Considering that I started working on that degree in the Fall of 1984, I'm fond of telling people that my engineering degree took me 21 years to finish.
About a year after receiving my degree, I was promoted to my current position of Firmware Engineering Manager. So, things are going well for me. I can't wait to see what the future has in store!
