Timothy's Story

this is my: Life married twice...divorced twice. I'm a difficult guy to live with, for myself as well sometimes. happily single with no plans or desire to wander down the aisle a third time, thank you. spent 30 years on the Lynn Fire Dept. retired in 2003 with 30 years service. 2 daughters (both college graduates) and 1 step son, one granddaughter. currently living in the heart of the Mt. Washington Valley of NH. antique clock collecting is a hobby, and acquired a 1985 Honda Nighthawk 650 in 2004. retirement can be boring at times, especially after spending 30 years at my career. Career as mentioned 30 years in the fire service, 11 as a firefighter and the remaining 19 as a company officer, lots of fires, both large and small, as well as the multiple EMS calls, the highlight of the career, delivered a child on a living room floor, quite an emotional experience. kinda dynamic as the little tyke needed some help breathing as the umbilical cord was wrapped around his throat. was a nationally registered EMT in the early 80s. who's a thunk I might be a semi-professional medical practitioner, not me boys and girls. during my tenure I was also an on-staff instructor at the Massachusetts State Firefighting Academy, involved in recruit training, "gas" school, structural firefighting, and shipboard fire fighting. Education a 27 year sojourn finally culminating in a BS from Salem State, in Fire Science Administration, mostly attended at night. professionally achieved a few certifications, as well as completed some courses offered at the National Fire Academy, located in Emmitsburg MD, right next door to Gettysburg as well as a course offered by F E M A, in hazardous materials incident management and mitigation. I'm far from an academic, preferring to learn what could be applied to my chosen profession. it's been an interesting ride....so far since last I posted music has always been an important part of my life been lucky enough to actually see some of the greats (IMHO) perform live. first live show...the Birds at the then War Memorial Auditorium (now the Prudential, 1966 maybe?) opening act the Barbarians, the drummer w/the prosthetic arm...how funky was that back then Hendrix at the gahden in '67...went alone...none of my buddies were into him at the time oh yeah...there was that "little" weekend at Max's farm in upstate NY in the summer of '69...my mom never believed my weekend away w/friends on the cape was spent among music's legends but to continue...Beach Boys at Shaefer Stadium...when the 5 original members were still among us. so many shows....so little time Chicago...the grass roots...three dog night (only cause I had "wronged" my then paramour)...my oldest actually attended her first concert in the womb....that would have been led zeppelin...they opened w/the immigrant song...or how about the who....the 2nd rock opera tour...Elton John...Billy Joel...later years got to see trans Siberian orchestra in Portland, then again in Boston w/my oldest her paramour & my grand daughter. youngest asked the simple question, "daddy, if I come east will you take me to see fleetwood mac on the reunion tour?" can't say no to that, so we did it. most animated I've had the pleasure of seeing her. here's a few obscure performers...depends on your likes , dislikes & huh, who??? start with the huh, who???...how about the jazz harpist? that would be Andreas Vollenweider. do a search & listen, believe it or not I f...Expand for more
irst heard his music during the end credits of the channel 5 11:00 PM news broadcasts (Pace Verdi was the tune) saw him perform at Symphony Hall...any of you folks ever hear of Tim Heintz? almost 2 decades ago I spent some of my evenings listening to "smooth jazz" the then DJ played this guy nightly...give a listen to "Dear Jacqui" if you seriously appreciate musical talent, (and you know who you are) Heintz played every instument you hear. not to shabby. wish I had his talent. Here's another of the obscure, "Cliffs of Dover" by Eric Johnson, first heard on a VHS for a boy's summer camp video, and yeah, I went about the business of sending my godson there. he did pretty well in individual competitions, excelling in archery, actually setting achievement records, it's gotta be that competing against ones self. an fyi, Johnson can be heard in the sound track of the Tom Cruise flick "Top Gun" (I'll let those intrigued figure out what he added to the sound track). as funky as it may sound, give a listen to the tail end of Yanni "The Rain Must Fall" recorded Live at the Acropolis, yikes the violinist is killer. speaking of obscure, how about Tangerine Dream, "Love on a Real Train" (from Risky Business) still sends shivers down my spine. next up would be "The Dream Academy" Please Please Please from the "Ferris Beuler" sound track...an aside..this last in addition to Pachelbel's canon in D are significant reminders of my 2 girls.feel free to ask why. Gordon Lightfoot a few times...1st was at Symphony Hall, he was tired & it showed, second was at the outdoor pavilion in Meredith NH...better...3rd was in Portland ME...even in his 70's he can still do it. got dragged to a solo Jackson Browne performance in Portland ME...was worth the trip or how about iron & wine, godson has expanded on some of my eclectic musical tastes. while I'm still cognizant I try to live by this theme, the Byrds, Wasn't Born To Follow, written by Carole King and in the Easy Rider soundtrack, hmm... was lucky enough to see my oldest perform on stage on multiple occasions...three penny opera & hair (complete with the disrobing scene) at american university, as a singer in the house band at Kowloon on any given sat. night as well as new years eve and one of the most memorable performances I ever witnessed...a duet w/my oldest friend at the then fat cactus on rt 1. my oldest daughter graduated from American University in DC years ago & is currently teaching at the school now located where Newman Park used to exist. I remember skating & playing tennis at Newman park, she provided me with a grand daughter, who is currently attending High School will be a sophomore the fall of 2016. she played volleyball for the team in the fall & is a member of the crew team in the spring. oldest is expecting her 2nd child in December. second daughter graduated from st. mike's in VT. she's currently living in Arizona, employed as an ultrasound therapist (sonographer) at a Phoenix hospital. I've visited her & her husband a few times, which included visits to the Grand Canyon. last of all my godson earned his masters degree in educational psychology from the University of Southern Maine. he's married to a physical therapist and living in Portland Maine. he dragged me along to Denver CO for a ski trip & Vegas for his bachelor's party. I highly recommend the chopper tour of the grand canyon and lake mead if you're ever in the area. the ride continues
