Wade and her husband Michael - In July landed a new job and set new savings goals with the ultimate goal being retirement July 2007 - May 2009 - Still working, thank goodness - Still saving for retirement - Was in San Diego very briefly in January 2009 to attend a friend's birthday party -Stayed with Lee and got to see Jill at the party but didn't have time to go anywhere or see anyone else - Will be flying up to Boise, Idaho in May 2009 to help my son move his family back here to Denver May 2009 - November 2009 - My son and his family are settled in - both he and his wife found work - we will celebrate Thanksgiving together - Jim and I are still working - we celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary in October by spending a couple of days at the new Ameristar Hotel/Casino/Spa in Blackhawk, Colorado - we have a couple of vacations planned for next year that will keep us in Colorado - we'll be in Palisade touring the wineries in the area for one of them, and in beautiful Steamboat Springs for the other November 2009 - May 2010 - Last year finished up just fine - this year so far has also been fine and Jim and I are on track with our retirement goals - I'm coming to San Diego for a conference - while there Lee Galloway, Jill Brantley and I will be having lunch with Ray Heim, our music teacher from LJHS, and Jill and I will meet April Normandie for dinner - Life is good! July 1, 2010 - The halfway mark on the march to retirement - 2 1/2 years down, 2 1/2 years to go. So far, so good. October 24, 2010 - Vacations in June and September (especially Steamboat Springs in September) were great! - Bicycling in Steamboat is amazing and got us motivated anew, a passion we share with our son and grandsons - Jim and I celebrated our 39th anniversary yesterday - I decided at the end of July that I am more than ready to reclaim my life and so I will help my company finish up 2010 and say good-bye to the work-a-day world on January 28, 2011 - All my life I have wanted to go to Spain - I'll be there in March 2011. Salud! April 5, 2011 - Just returned from Spain and Portugal - Loved it all - want to go back and will be putting energy into making it happen - In the meantime, I am trying out all kinds of new recipes - Best culinary purchase: a wok and a set of bamboo utensils - Favorite dishes thus far are Pork Loin (slow cooked in white wine), Veggie Lo Mein, and Indian Vegetable Stew - Life is delicious! June 29, 2011 - Will be making a road trip to northern California in September - Am headed back to Spain's Costa del Sol next March - Retirement is absolutely THE BEST!!!!! October 2011 - I've been traveling off and on (mostly on) since March and just got back from a 3,400 mile solo road trip to NoCal and SoCal. Visited my mother-in-law, Jill Brantley, and Lee Galloway. In March of this year I traveled to Spain and back by myself although I joined a tour in Madrid. Life is still delicious and retirement is still THE BEST!!! Salud! April 2012 - Just back from two weeks in Spain. I headquartered out of the Costa del Sol and day tripped all over Southern Spain and into Morocco. I had a great little studio apartment with a kitchenette; my apartment had a private deck with a fabulous view of the Mediterranean; the weather was great. My husband is retired now also and is enjoying each and every day as much as I am. Life is still delicious and retirement is still the best! Salud! Almost October 2012 - Leadville, Keystone and Steamboat, as well as a three week camping trip are behind us and we are settling into fall and winter. I am dancing four hours a week and cycling with Jim for about 4. Turning 65 definitely has its perks with the Silver Sneakers program. I continue to accumulate and try new recipes because I love to cook (and eat!). I love the cooler weather and all the great things it brings - warming up by the fireplace, yummy crock pot meals, scarves!!!, turtlenecks, corduroy, great sleeping weather. Yep. Life is still delicious and retirement is still the best! Salud! Mid-May 2013 - Just returned from a 4 week trip camping in Utah with the objective being to visit all 5 National Parks there plus the north rim of the Grand Canyon and a 3rd visit to Mesa Verde. Long story short - it is GREAT to be back in America . . . .um, I mean Colorado. Our precious National Parks are being overrun by foreign visitors who do not care about protecting the environments within, and are incredibly rude to boot. I don't blame people for wanting to see these things. But I have to admit that I am stunned at the pervasive disregard for our shared responsibility in the protection of these precious environments, and even more stunned at the lack of courtesy and respect shown by so many of the foreign visitors. Late October 2013 - Jim and I spent a week cycling in Keystone in late spring, and a week cycling in Breckenridge in late summer - I dance several hours a week and am attend...Expand for more
ing workshops that are raising my skill level - I'm looking forward to a three day dance workshop next May - This week promises to bring cooler weather (finally!!!) which I love for all the reasons mentioned last year - I'm starting a series of writing classes this week and I'm putting together the menu for Thanksgiving dinner which I always stress about but love doing anyway. Life is still good, it's still delicious, and retirement is still THE BEST!. Salud! Late October 2014 - Time is flying! We just celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary. Didn't do anything particularly special. I barbecued some chicken and paired it with a wonderful CO wine called Road Kill Red. Have had several highlights in this year - Jill Brantley and Lee Galloway came to visit in July for a couple of days. We bought a new RV and hit the road for 4 weeks in September bumming around the Western Slope of CO. Got in lots of great hiking and cycling. The 3 day dance workshop in May was an extraordinary experience. We banked our Keystone timeshare but used our Breckenridge timeshare in August when the Pro Cycling Challenge came through. That was very exciting. While there we cycled out of Breck, over Swan Mountain, down into Dillon, across the dam and around the reservoir back to Breck. Definitely the most challenging ride I've ever done. I finished an eight week series of writing classes late last year. Frankly, I'd rather be dancing. Coming up this year will be TG dinner with the family. Sliding into 2015, Jim and I are planning our vacations for next year. So many vacation opportunities, so little time! I'm very happy to say that life is still good, it's still delicious, and retirement is still the best time of life ever! Salud! Mid-August 2015 - Dancing continues to be a force in my life and I attended two major workshops in June and July. My husband and I are thoroughly enjoying our RV. We were back in Utah in April and May hiking. Colorado is blessed with many beautiful, well located State Parks that we have been visiting and enjoying. I'm not cycling near as much as I was because, as stated above, I would rather be dancing. So many dances, so little time! :) I continue to enjoy cooking (and eating) and Jim and I continue to enjoy sampling Colorado wines. So, once again, I'm very happy to say that life is still good, it's still delicious, and retirement is still the best time of life ever! Salud! September 2016 - I spent the last year dealing with a few minor health issues which I believe were all caused by, or exacerbated by, a Vitamin D deficiency. Once that was figured out I returned to my normal self with my normal energy level. We've just returned from 4 weeks on the road in our RV and hiking and cycling were their usual pleasures. In the last year or so I have choreographed four dances and I've been working on a fifth. If you want to see one of them, go to You Tube and search for Una Poca De Gracia Line Dance. The demo video with 4 people in black is the one that I did with 3 dancing buddies. In November I will be in Vegas with a dancing buddy to attend a major dance workshop and fulfill a couple of items on my bucket list. Life continues to be really good, still really delicious, and I totally love this time of life. I don't think I was this joyful, energetic, or full of life when I was 30. To think I am nearly 70 just absolutely does not compute. Live to Dance . . .Dance to Live. Salud! Christmas 2016 - The dance workshop in Las Vegas was wonderful! I checked off THREE bucket list items: 1) dancing "Larger Than Life" with Simon Ward, 2) redemption dancing "Pontoon" at Gilley's, and 3) participating in a dance flash mob! I traded one of my timeshare weeks so my friend and I enjoyed a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo for the week instead of having to stay in a hotel and eat out. We ate out once and my tab was $50+ for a meal I could barely eat it was so poorly conceived and prepared. On the other hand, a week's worth of food that I prepared myself in the condo set me back a whopping $77. Coming up in this exciting new year of 2017 is a trip to the San Diego area in July, and a hike up to Wall Lake in the Trappers Lake area of CO. Many years ago Jim and I made that hike and as we were ascending, we met a group of people already descending. A quick chat with them informed us that one of the hikers was a 70 year old woman. I was inspired by her so making that hike at 70 years old went on my bucket list. Life continues to be good, it continues to be delicious, and retirement is still the best time of life ever! Have a wonderful Christmas everyone and especially have a FABULOUS 2017!!!!!!!!! December 2017 - WOW! What a great year. All the things I planned came about and 2018 is taking shape nicely. I will be in Palm Springs for a dance workshop in January. Then in July another dance workshop in Colorado Springs. I finished choreographing a beginner line dance. As always, in the winter months, we are tethered here until the weather warms and the roads clear. In the meantime, I still live to dance, still love to cook, and I still think this is THE BEST time of life EVER! Salud! April 2018 - Big change of plans - Jim's mom passed away at the age of 94. We have cancelled all our travel plans in the RV for this year so we can be available to help get things settled. I will enjoy one of our timeshares in June and attend the dance workshop scheduled for July but, aside from that, we will just be home for a change which is OK under the circumstances. The dance workshop in Palm Springs exceeded all my expectations. Again I traded one of my timeshares and thoroughly enjoyed the accommodations. The longer I have them, the more I love those timeshares. Just two more reasons that this is the best time of life ever!! And in my life, just when I think there are no more surprises - no more new and exciting things - something totally unexpected comes up and I marvel at this great time of life all over again! Dance, cook, eat, travel . . . what's not to thoroughly love! Salud! October 2018 - We are downsizing our personal belongings. I am documenting photos and family info, including researched genealogy, on the Ancestry website. No more clutter! The last 3 months of this year should be very exciting and we are looking forward to 2019. Life is still GREAT, it's still delicious, and this is still the best time of life ever! Salud! April 2019 - This is going to be another great year with so many travel plans and (fingers crossed) a permanent move out of Colorado. Life is still GREAT, and DELICIOUS, and every day brings new experiences into this best time of life ever! Salud! September 2019 - our permanent move out of Colorado is imminent. We are having a home built and will live in our RV until our brick and mortar home is completed later this year. We downsized our personal belongings to the extent that what we are taking with us will fit in the back of my Ford Escape. We leave our son and his family behind but we may actually see them more once we are moved. So . . . Life is still good. Life is still delicious. Salud! December 31, 2019: What a prosperous & exciting year 2019 has been! Looking forward to a great 2020. Salud! 🎉 July 11, 2020 - Well, 2020 sucks and it's going to get worse. And not necessarily because of the plandemic, but as a result of it. Intended consequences. Take it to the bank. Good luck. August 2023 - Still alive and dancing. Life is still delicious and retirement is still the best time of life ever. All is well in my little corner of the planet. Salud and good luck. April 2024 - All is mostly well in my little corner of the planet. Salud and good luck.
