Tina's Story

Life I left the law practice-went to seminary-was sole pastor of a small church in SC. Am now a hospice chaplain in FL. I have three beautiful "kids": 2 Boxers and a little black dog I found. Life is good! School My one regret about school is that I moved for my senior year. I wish I could have stuck around to really get to know everyone better. My best memories are of screaming my lungs out, cheering at the football games. (I still do that at football games.) I also remember "cutting" lunch to go to the library on a regular basis. (Who does that?!!) I almost missed my farewell cake at lunch because I was in the library -- I think it was Shelly Taulber who came looking for me. College College was a blast! I went rock climbing, whitewater kayaking, desert backpacking, skiing, and mountain hiking. I did some things people would never have expected of me. I was also in a sorority (Delta Delta Delta). I changed my major many times over, did a year of pre-med., and finally graduated (after 5 years) with a degree in Mass Communications (which I never used). After college I worked as a volunteer Wilderness Ranger for the U.S. Forest Service for a season. It was the best time of my life! Workplace Immediately after college I volunteered for the U.S. Forest Service for a season. I had the time of my life living out of a tent 8 miles up in the mountains. ...Expand for more
Then I returned home and worked for a fabric store until the following Spring, when I did some work through a temp. agency. One of the companies for which I did temp work hired me full-time as an administrative assistant. As soon as I could, I transferred into the word processing department. I stayed there for a couple of years then went to a law firm as the sole word processor for one of its branches. I loved that job, but kept asking, "why am I doing this, making this kind of money when I can do what the lawyers are doing and make a lot more?" So, I took the LSAT and headed off to law school. Three years later I had my J.D. in hand. I ended up taking 3 bar exams and passing them all the first time around, being admitted to practice in all 3 States. I practiced law for 7 years when I heard God calling me to seminary in 2001. Four months later I was in seminary. Three years later I received my Master of Divinity degree. That Fall I was called to a small church in SC. I pastored that church for 40 days shy of 7 years. Now I am a hospice chaplain in FL. I finally feel like I am doing what I have always been meant to do in life. The only difficult thing about it is that people don't feel like they can be themselves around a member of the clergy. So, it is nice to have some friends who "knew me when" with whom I can still let my hair down and be myself.
