Tina's Story
Life
Starring as Faerie Queen Titania in several Iowa area Renaissance Faires. I am now a certified Librarian. I also work as the computer technician for the library and this includes writing SQL queries and teaching computer classes. I have 4 children, two girls, 22 and 11, and two boys 20 and 14. My husband of 16 years is Brad E. Nelson, from Iowa, he and I met in a bar in Korea, of all things. We have one living grandchild, Alissia Morgana, who is now 18 months old. We may be adding another grandchild to the family soon, as my 20 year old is engaged to a young lady with an 11 month old son. I do a lot of sewing, both for my family, even faeries need clothing ;) and for a local dance studio. I miss the military lifestyle, the traveling and the commraderie that went with it. I hope someday we will move from podunk Iowa to a city closer to a military installation. I just miss the whole military atmosphere.
Military
Wow, ages ago but at times it seems so recent. I joined with a guaranteed job as a Radio Communications Analyst, 202. I had no idea what I'd be doing except that it would require me to use my brain. I made it through basic training without being set back or having to march in a single parade. Bei...Expand for more
ng a 6'2" tall female had some great advantages and some not so great disadvantages too. One of the advantages was that I had to have my long sleeve shirts and jackets custom made, so miraculously everytime we had a parade I had dorm guard duty. One of the disadvantages was that I was the tallest woman in my flight, which meant that I stuck out like a sore thumb, which meant I was a rather obvious target for any duty that needed height; like the milk dispensers during chowhall duty. I was also selected as the 4th Squad Leader. My best friend in basic was, Monica Gray, who was also the shortest woman in the flight. After leaving basic I went on to Goodfellow AFB for tech school. I had lots of male buddies a few good female friends and a couple of boyfriends, one of which I almost married, until he asked me to get pregnant and get out of the Air Force. After tech school I was sent to Kelly AFB, for awhile I thought the Air Force motto was "Join the Air Force and see Texas". As some of the old sayings go I could tell you what I did but then I'd have to kill you. For those of us in the field it was a favorite joke, that along with buttons like "My job is so secret even I don't even know what I'm doing." But all joking aside
