Toby's Story
Life
Since high school I have become a Sooner, attending the University of Oklahoma (OU) 1982 to 1986. I majored in Fine Arts and was a Chi Omega. I married Darren Kaiser in 1984, and went to work at Tinker Air Force Base (as a civilian), outside Oklahoma City, in 1987. My son, Warren Kaiser, was born in January 1992. Darren and I parted ways in 1994. While working full time, and juggling single motherhood, I completed a Masters of Business Administration (also at OU, so I could get student tickets to the football games!). I was single for 10 years, raising Warren, climbing the corporate ladder, and, in general, having fun (a little water/jet skiing, golf, trips, and playing at my parents ranch - 160 acres - horses, cows, tractors, the works!). Feb 1, 2003, I married a long time friend, Andrew Arnett. We're having a great time attending Warren's sporting events (wrestling right now), playing at the lake, and taking a few spectacular trips. My father died 05/05/05. I miss him greatly. My mom lives close by. She just recently stopped teaching. I've been at Tinker for 20 years now! I've worked on several great programs, including Air Force One (VC-25), E-4, T-3, C-137, and C-32. For the past 4 years, I lead an effort in the largest Wing in the Air Force, to modernize aging industrial facilities and operations (6 million square feet, where 8,000 mechanics repair and overhaul the Air Force's major weapon systems - B-52, B-1, C/KC-135, E-3s, etc). I never thought I'd be knee deep in the latest industrial operations, facility systems and large scale construction projects. It was interesting and rewarding, but wore me out! On Oct 15, 2007, I transited back to the program management...Expand for more
world. I am the Deputy System Support Manager for the B-2 Bomber. This means my 500 person organization (civilian, military and contractors) is responsible for the care and feeding of the AF's fleet of B-2 Bombers. Care and feeding??? Spares, Programmed Depot Maintenance (similar to D Checks only more), Major Aircraft/System/Software Modifications, Repairs in the Field - everything needed to keep it in mission capable status. Life is full of surprises, twists and turns. Never a dull moment! After Warren graduates in 2010, I hope to move to Washington DC. I go there often for work and just love it!
School
Probably one of the few who loved high school. ASB Cabinet was a lot of fun, and prepared me well for managing the large activities/projects that I run today. Leadership camps were the best -- the skits, the dances, the games! Volleyball taught me how to be a team player. I wasn't an A player, but loved the camaraderie and being part of an A team.
I owe a big thanks to Mr. Sorter who, year after year, had the courage to take 30 students to Europe. What a spectacular experience. There's nothing like seeing the Sistine Chapel in person. The Parthenon is soooo big! The ocean in Greece is the most stunning I've ever seen.
College
I attended the University of Oklahoma. I was there for a national championship in football. Pledged Chi Omega. Lived the sorority life for two years. Worked as a waitress. Majored in Fine Art - Commercial/Advertising. My Dad kept asking me..."so, how, with an Art degree, will you feed yourself?" Hummm....had to return to school for a real degree - a Masters of Business Administration. I do quite well now...feeding myself and others! :)
