After repeatedly failing Mrs. Cote's mandatory government class, with 27 credits collected, majors in EVERYTHING, I simply gave up, quit, and went to work instead.
I became only the second person to ever get into the Air Force WITHOUT a H.S. diploma since 1945 on March 22, 1965. After an honorable discharge, I enjoyed, for a while, being a student engineer at Babcock and Wilcox until office politics and backstabbing made continuation undesirable.
To insulate myself from those pissing contests, I became an asphalt foreman and truck driver/equipment operator for the next 14 years, working with first a Cleveland company, and then a paving company in stow. Eventually, having spent those years inhaling that hot blue cloud, I became an over the road driver for the Turzillo Corporation. When they were sold, I found an opportunity to become an owner operator. I bought a truck, enjoyed that freedom for about eight years.
In 2001, I began seeking out in house contract companies, and finally settled in with American Transportation in Stow, working that contract until March of 06' when a stroke took away my vision (temporarily, thank The Lord) and found myself suddenly unemployable in that career, and in need of a place to recuperate from the stroke. Fortunately for me, a lady friend in Colorado offered her domicile to me as a place to do so, and I moved out to Colo...Expand for more
rado to effect my recovery safely.
I have recovered , at this point, and look forward to possibly purchasing another truck and getting back out into America. Fond howdies to Frank Novack, Jim Hanslick, and Lynn Gowan, wherever you are.
I had found my slot, being a citizen of the entire country, seeing ALL of it, at my discretion, visiting my friends, regardless of their location, through creative dispatching techniques, and spending whatever time I decided at each visit.
In March, 2006, I suffered a series of blood-clot strokes in the occipital area of my brain, effecting my vision. It was probably set up by the mercury poisoning I suffered in the Air Force.
Out of trucking, I moved to Colorado to retire, have regained the majority of my vision, and enjoy puttering for friends and neighbors, and riding my fourth Harley Davidson motorcycle on my good days.
I am currently restoring a 58 Chevy step-side pickup, and hope to ride it back over to minuteman-land and enjoy seeing our surviving friends sometime in the near future.
Still play frisbee, fly kites, and roll down a hill every spring, giggling, just to keep my inner child alive, and happy.
Climb a tree, hang by your legs, and occasionally do those stupid things you did when you were 12,,keeps you young and firm. For those who have messenger at yahoo, dafreeman2003 would create a prolific exchange for sure!!
