Todd's Story
Life
After high school, I went to WVU for all of one year. Well, my first time away from my parents, I let loose and wound up majoring in alcohol as a freshman. They asked me not to come back for a year. Since that did not work out as planned, I went to Plan B, and joined the US Navy. I spent more than 11 years in the service, seeing things and going places I never would have been able to without the Navy. I've been to London, Paris, Rome, Jerusalem, Greece, Spain, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. I've been on ships in the Mediterranean Sea, the Suez Canal, the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf. During the Gulf War, I was stuck in Virginia Beach while my brother was in the war. Some guys have all the luck. I left the Navy in March of 2000, going to work for a civilian company with a Navy contract. It turns out that I am working at the same base, in the same ...Expand for more
shop, with the same people that I worked with for the last three years of my enlistment. Crazy. At the same time, my brother and I started a real estate investment business. My brother bought a house, we remodeled and refurbished it (that took a year), and sold it. I bought an apartment complex---don't get excited, it's only four apartments---and rented them out at an obscene profit. I sold those apartments for a tidy sum, and went back to school to get my Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and Administrator (MCSA) certificates and currently work for EDS with the Navy on their worldwide computer network.
Well, the 15-year reunion came and went, and I had a great time. I was nervous about returning to Grafton after so many years away, but I felt welcomed by all of you who attended. Thanks for a great weekend! Look me up if you are coming this way.
