Tom's Story

Tom works(ed) at Western Regional Day Report Center, Cabell County Home Confinement Director, Cabell County Farm Superintendent. More about Tom:"Hello friends, my name is Tom Bevins. I am the Client Supervisor at the Western Regional Day Report Center in Huntington. One of my achievements was starting the Home Confinement Program under the direction of Honorable Judge Daniel O'Hanlon in 1993. Prior to that I was a Huntington Police Officer for 25 years and worked various positions through out that time period, including Homicide Investigation, Armed Robbery Investigation, as well as Domestic Violence and Rape Investigation. During that time I also graduated from The National Fire Academy and served as the city's first Arson Investigator, as well as becoming the first K9 officer in Huntington. I have attended several universities through out my career as a police officer studying all areas of law enforcement & victim advocacy. I have been married to my wife, the former Mary Paugh from Barboursville, WV, the daughter of Evelyn and Sterling Paugh, for 26 years. I have 4 children, a son Tom Jr. who is a Federal Agent with the DEA, a step-son Scott Hensley who is a successful attorney and CPA in North Carolina, a step-daughter Shannon Hensley who is a graduate of Marshall University with an Accounting Degree and a son Ted...Expand for more
dy who is a long time employee of the Toyota Manufacturing Plant in Buffalo W.V. My wife and I have lived in Huntington & Milton our entire married life. I am running for Magistrate of Cabell County on the Democratic Ticket this election and if elected I hope to use my background and experience in law enforcement to better our community through just and fair servitude. With the experience I have gained dealing with inmates and criminals I feel completely confident that I will be able to make the best decisions to keep our community safe and establish the grounds of recovery for criminals, while simultaneously reducing the recidivism rate. The task of lowering the percentage of repeat offenders is attainable through teaching inmates better work ethic and life skills with the programs we already have in place, so that upon their release these inmates can be better equipped for integration back into our community as productive members of society. Keep in mind that not all inmates would qualify for this type of program and as a rule will be used only on first time offenders with very few exceptions. My judgments will be both stern and helpful to the city and the surrounding area of Cabell County while never losing sight of my number one priority, a safe community for us all to live in and enjoy. Your vote for me for Magristate for Cabell County, on Tuesday May 8th, would be greatly appreciated.".
