Tom's Story
Life
After graduating from Springfield HS, I attended the University of Akron to include Air Force ROTC. I enjoyed ROTC so much that I enlisted in the Air Force for 4 years. I was due to separate from the Air Force in 1971 but due to the economy, I decided to make the Air Force a career. I spent 20 years in the Air Force and retired on November 1, 1987 with an Associates Degree in Personnel Management. I worked with Thom Smith in his priviate business for 13 months before I secured a job at the VA Medical Center in Human Resources. I returned to the University of Akron to finish my 4 year degree. I graduated in 1993 with a BS in Science in Technical Education and a concentration in Human Resources. I spent 15 years in Human Resources and my last job was Chief of Recruitment. Then, I was able to finally enter into the Education world where my degree was and that is where I am currently. I really enjoy teaching and sharing my knowledge with our employees at the VA Medical Center. I am married for almost 37 years and have two sons. I currently moved to Streestboro, Ohio. I enjoy the family, landscaping, boating and biking.

March 68 to March 69. My first state side assignment was Shaw Air Force Base Souch Carolina where I got married and had one son. I was then reassigned to Rickenbacker Air Force Base in Columbus, Ohio where I had my second son. Then I was shipped out to Castle Air Force Base in Califorina. After that, I was selected to join the Headquarters staff for Stragetic Air Command at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. After spending 5 years there, I was picked up for an overseas assignment to Germany for 3 years. After that, I joined the Headquarters of the Air Force Communication Command at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. I retired from there in 1987.
Retired Life - Last Chapter
I retired from the VA Medical Center in Cleveland after 34 years. I loved my jobs in Human Resources and Education. I ended up as a Department Head for Employee/Patient Experience Service. Good boses, good staff, and good co-workers made it hard for me to retire. My goal in life is to live to be 100, to give me time to enjoy retirement & to contribute to society as much as possible. I’m already President of our high school 50+ Association which gives graduating seniors selected after a competitive review $2,000 scholarships. I’m now ready for my next venture. Hope to hear from all of you as to how you are doing!!
