Thomas's Story

Life: Still crazed but slowed somewhat due to advancing age. Began playing bass guitar in '65 with various school (and non-school) friends in various groups, inspired by The Kinks, Animals, Stones, Yardbirds and other British Invasion groups. "Graduated" to six-string in '72, learned my stuff and played in a serious (well, semi anyway) rock 'n' roll band from 1975 (when I bought my first Les Paul) to 1980 then shortly thereafter moved to CA and have lived here since. Fought a battle with Cancer (NOT the astrological sign!) in '97 and won. And how the f**k are YOU??? My only child, a son, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on August 21 '03 due to complications from Leukemia: a hospital-acquired fungal infection called Rhinocerebral Mucormycosis (Google it) which has a 90+% mortality rate. By the time they diagnose it you're already screwed. It didn't help matters that the doctors initially diagnosed sinusitis and wasted over a week treating him for same, so by the time they actually figured it out he had lost an eye to it and it ate him up, literally. He'd been in remission for over two years so I thought he'd beaten it. He was 18 and had just graduated from High School two months prior, having made up over two years worth of missed school plus his regular Senior year in one school year. He had earned a full scholarship at a prestigious culinary academy in San Francisco and was going to become a chef. I miss him terribly; he was the light of my life and my reason for being, and without him life doesn't seem to be quite as important any longer. He would have been 21 on April 28 of '06 and had long planned to go to Las Vegas to...Expand for more
celebrate his birthday with his friends. I hope he still did and had a ripping time! 8.15.08-It's been almost 5 years since he crossed over and I miss him more each day. He still rides shotgun in my car and I talk to him. There isn't a day goes by that I don't hear him make a sarcastic comment (like father, like son!), hear him mimic someone's voice (he was VERY good at this) or tell a funny story about something that happened to him and/or one of his friends-and life still isn't as important as it used to be while he was here....... 4.28.09-he would be 24 today.....Happy Birthday, Elvis Velveeta; your old man and Mr. B miss the hell out of you! 8.21.09-it's been 6 years to the day since he passed; it seems like 6 months. It still doesn't get easier.....and likely never will. Now he's got Grandpa, The Legend, to hang with. 3.17.2K10: St. Paddy's Day is one of my "sad, missing my son" days; the kid could eat more Corned Beef than imaginable for a Gentile! I would make the dinner every year and it's one of the traditions I miss most. No surprise I woke up this morning w/a tear in my eye.... 4.28.2K10-today would be Adams's 25th birthday. Happy birthday, Ray aka Elvis Velveeta. We all miss you more than can be imagined. Even Mr. B knows today is a special day.....he walked in your room first thing this morning and looked around to see you. Maybe he could! 7.25.2K10-1 year since grandpa, The Legend, crossed over. the man was the closest thing to a father I've had for the last 25 years, so he's sorely missed as well. 8.20.2K10-it's been 7 years since he crossed over; seems like 7 months.....and it doesn't get any easier.
