Tom's Story

Life: I'm #3 of seven kids my mom had. I have 3 "whole sisters" and 2 "half sisters", and a "half brother". Interesting to say, my mom was married four times...and was divorced three...and had outlived all the men she was married to! She passed away on April 23rd, 2005 at 80 years old in Phoenix, AZ. Mom had all of her kids born and raised in Indianapolis, IN. I have two of those five sisters in Indy; and the rest in AZ. I love the memories...good and not so good...of my birth hometown of Indy! My education years were good for the most part, though I never really excelled academically in most of the studies. I thought for a few years while in high school that I wanted to be a radio DJ...or the next 'Sid Collins' (of IMS Radio Network fame) to help broadcast Indy Motorsports...but that didn't quite turn out to be; though I love radio listening and have untold hours of memories listening to various station formats over the years. Most of my "higher education" was in GA. That's where I met my wife. I've been married since June, 1976. We decided to not have children...a decision that, sometimes, I wish was not made. (Many say to me that I would have made a good parent) I have been "blessed well" by the gracious Lord from above! He has watched over me!! (I pray sincerely that you do will be watched over and blessed by God!) I look EAGERLY forward to chatting with my "new and old 'Classmates' friends". E-mail me...let's get aquainted! T.S.F. L.C. Class of 1970 "Bears" in Indy School: The school years...now there's an interesting area I like to tell! As was said in my "Bio", my education years was not great in the academics. My average grades in most of the subjects was just that: average (and sometimes less). But, try me now in subject talks! I feel like I can tackle some of the better to best areas with alot more confidence. My first four years in elementary were at a few different Catholic schools in Indy. (My mother's second husband was a Catholic, and he moved us around a few times...mainly because of his alcoholism) By the time I was leaving 4th grade level, I was living with my birth father & his second wife. She & Dad thought I would be much better off in a public scho...Expand for more
ol...and it was true, I was! So, 5th grade to 12th was in the Lawrence Township area of Indianapolis. Those were very good years, and many times I reminisce about those "glory days of my youth"! Teachers of then vs. now-a-days are still for the most, loving, helpful, and want to see the best in education for their pupils. But...I still think it hard to find some of those I had to even match or excel a few of them I still fondly remember! (Thanks, Mrs. Grayson...you were one of the Best in my book! ;) ) Workplace: Most of my over thirty years in the work area (full & part-time) have been in retail sales...with the shoe business being the most. I've worked in "kiddies" shoes all the way to 100 + year olds! SAS shoes from San Antonio, TX has been the best in quality & comfort in my opinion! They started in 1976...are still are USA parts & labored made...and worth every penny of the somewhat expensive price! The other areas of retail sales that I have had interested is in audio/visual & now computers. (In other words, the electronic products) My hope is to someday get finally into the area of audio/video making for relatives & some friends as well as my own special interest areas that could be told with this "new fangled stuff" we all have avilable nowadays! UPDATE on Work; I retired two years ago (early October, 2015). I have enjoyed the retired life. Kept busy in my hobbies as mentioned above...and, am keeping house for the wife & me - you know...dust/vacuum/prepare the evening meals/wash the dishes/mow& trim the lawn. SOMETHING to SHARE with Lawrence Central High school mates: On September 22, 2017 L.C. had their 75th "Diamond" Celebration. I was there. Spent from about 2 p.m. till 9:45 enjoying the festive young & old: from former students, several faculty members including a lot of time watching the L.C. marching band practice, and, the hundreds to thousand plus students. The "Bears" won the game - their Homecoming; 14 - 12 over Center Grove High. (They also won yesterday [9-29-17] over North Central High. YEAH!) Anyway...took a lot of photos (some to be put on Classmate & Facebook) and digital recorded audio of nearly all that time there. The recording sounds great!

Another passing of someone I've known for about 20 years at Skyland U.M.C. in Atlanta:
Jean Bennett - wife of the late George Bennett who was also a member of S.U.M.C., passed away two days ago. She was almost 64 years old.

This is a sad day for the people on my "adopted mom's side of the family"... but, it's a day of knowing that his long time struggle of Alzheimer's/Dementia for 14 years has come to an end this day - March 6, 2018.
