Tom's Story

Hi. In 1966 the Vagabonds asked me to join their group and play the upright bass, so I did, and continued through my senior year. It was fun, but I was fairly clueless, and the sudden attention caused my grades to suffer. But, I learned some good lessons, mainly how shallow worldly praise is. Even so, those shallow gigs at Old Abilene Town surely were fun! Finally I wised up, went on to McMurry, got a degree in religion and German, and then to seminary: first at Emory in Atlanta, and after one year I transferred back to Texas, to SMU, and graduated with a Master of Theology degree. For years I was a pastor, and loved helping churches grow. I pursued a Doctor of Ministry degree in Church Growth from Fuller Seminary in Los Angeles (no relation), and got it in 1989. Fuller was, by far, my best educational experience. It is a wonderful school, and not just because of the name! In 2006 I was appointed a Methodist evangelist, and formed International Adventure Ministries. Now I travel and preach, teach and sing, Have been to England, Poland and India. Mostly I work in Texas and California. We live in Lubbock. hing going on today is in Scripture. I try to inspire Christians to stay faithful, regardless of which way the world goes. Those who do, the Bible calls "The Remnant." It's a small group, and I want to be among them. My two groups, "The Remnant Fellowship" and "The Wesleyan Fellowship" now have about 1200 members. Most of what I do is undenominational. Invite me to your church! I ask a love offering, plus a place to stay if it's very far from Lubbock. I'm a cheap date. At our 50th Reunion, I plan to sing an original song--a waltz, complete with computerized orchestra and a 10,000-voice angelic choir--in memory of those from our class who have died. I will name each one in the song, during the Memorial Service Sunday morning, June 25th. If, between now and then, my name gets added to that list, then I probably won't sing. August, 2017: The reunion was wonderful. Thank you, Jennabeth, Tevyan, Eileen, and all the rest of you who made it that way. It is one of my best memories. I am learning how to make a good recording of the song I sang, honoring those who died. My sound mixer is complicated, and so is the recording software. But I just about have them figured out. If you would like a free CD, please write me and I will send you one when they're finished. This won't let me include my email address. Facebook is a good way.
