Thomas's Story
After about 7 years of semi-retirement (starting in 2003), decided to go back to work in early 2010 working for BAE Systems, a Defense Contractor based in the UK. In the US, BAE bought out what used to be FMC/United Defense, manufacturers of the Bradley, M113 and MRAP military vehicles. Signed on as a Field Services Representative and Satellite Systems technician.
I finished working in Texarkana, TX for in November, 2010 as an MRAP instructor and a member of the MRAP Mobile Maintenance Team. I also worked in the Charleston, SC offices for several months, as well as the Army's Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, MD before that. I attended the military's Combat Readiness Center at Fort Benning, GA beginning on December 4, where I got all my innoculations for overseas, as well as helmet, body armor, etc., and some theater-specific training on country customs, IED awareness, and other details.

om there until late February, 2011. At that time they moved me to Balad, Iraq. I was part of the contractor team that closed Balad down as the final US troops left in 2011, and from there moved to FOB Sharana, in the Afghanistan mountains near the Pakistan border.
I came back to the US during part of 2012, and was living in Alton, IL. However, decided that I really wanted to get back working overseas. I took a job with Mantech International in November, 2012, again working as an MRAP FSR, and worked in Bagram, Afghanistan until August, 2013.
While overseas, I started communicating online with a lovely lady named Debbie, who coincidentally lived back in Peoria. When the contract ended, I moved back to Peoria, and Debbie and I were subsequently married in December 2013. We are both extremely happy. We have a home just off N. Knoxville, across from Avanti's.
God bless our troops valiantly fighting overseas, or wherever they are serving their country.
