Tom Kemper:

CLASS OF 1965
Sunnyvale, CA

Tom's Story

After graduation I went to Foothill to continue high school, go to parties, and play basketball. I tried at Foothill, then De Anza where I got really lucky and made the team. next few years, I took a job at ESL, had our second child, bought a house, graduated, and learned some computer programming which became an opportunity in software development. And I played basketball at work and in recreational leagues. I left ESL, which no longer exists, when a former boss offered me a job at Sun Microsystems, another company that no longer exists. Sun was an exciting place to work and once again I had opportunities to work on many interesting projects. I graduated to playing basketball in over 35 leagues, but that got tough once I passed 50. I retired from Sun, no longer employed, but I do some volunteer work in the AARP Income Tax program for seniors. With all the opportunities I’ve had, it is nice to give something back. Val and I are working on 45 years and have two grandchildren. Now I play basketball with my grandson.
