Tom's Story

So here is a unique idea. Instead of paying dues to this site to contact me, just email me! t k r o p l i at e m a i l d o t c o m Bet that'll piss off the Clasmates folks. My Story (Very Abridged) I always wanted to be a geologist when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. I chant "Nam-Myho-Renge-Kyo (I'm a Buddhist) when I'm stressed. After 47 years with absolutely no interest in spirituality, I finally found a good fit. I'ts not for everyone. It has no God, no heaven or hell. The meaning in life is in the happiness we experience and bring to others through an eternity of lifetimes. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have quiet, good company, and at least daily laughter to be able to deal with the day-to-day. I have lived all over the US. From Bound Brook NJ, to Philadelphia, to Chicago, to California, to Texas and finally Las Vegas. I've also traveled the world. I've seen Europe, the Caribbean, and most of the countries on the Mediterranean. I've seen the Roman Colosseum, and have emptied the dust surrounding the Egyptian Pyramids out of my shoes. I still want to see Antarctica before I'm too old. The one person from my distant past that I still talk to is Shawn Barone, because he's my best and longest known friend. In fact, I see him almost anytime I'm within 100 miles of Bound Brook (which isn't often these days). I confess, I'm also curious about what became of the girls I had crushes on. I won't name names, because you know who you are. What do I like to do? Wow that's gonna take some writing. I'm big into collecting beautiful and unusual objects. For example, I've been collecting carved jade for the last couple of years. eBay is my friend. I also play with my animals all the time. I've got two cats (Rocky & Suki) and two dogs (Chico and Pickles). Pickles is my new best friend. I've never really been a dog person until now, but this dog ...Expand for more
changed all of that. I also spend a lot of time on the net. Way more than watching TV (although I do a lot of that too). TV is evil. Really. But I'm hooked on its alternate reality like most everyone. My biggest surprise is that I got married to the RIGHT person. I met Kellie online (back when that was so fringe, people thought I was crazy). She is my constant companion and my best friend. I'd probably be...well I don't even like to think about it... if I hadn't met her. I have two grown daughters, and one is married with my two grand kids. Grandkids! I can hardly believe it. One of the things I've learned from being a parent, it that you can't warn your kids away from every hurt. I used to think I'd be like a friendly time traveler to my kids, warning them away from the mistakes they would make. Turns out, it doesn't work that way. Of all the teachers I'd like to see again, I'd like to see Victor Saginario. He's dead of course, but he definitely helped me become a more successful person. What happened to my first crush? I'm pretty sure she got married. I was crazy about her from 2nd grade through the 8th grade. She knows who she is. What would I do differently if given a do-over? Nothing. I've been happy and fortunate. I'm living the best days of my life right now, every day. I've known success and failure. I've been breathless with happiness, crazy in love, and in a pit of despair so black I thought my life had been amputated. I've loved and been loved. But everything I enjoy now is the culmination of a million choices 90% of which didn't reveal their significance until much later. So no, no do-overs for me. What about me would surprise everyone at my high school reunion? Well, I don't go to them. No time really, and I live too far away. I think maybe you'd be surprised at how little has changed to the casual observer. Life has rounded off a lot of rough edges, but I'm still me. Maybe we'll run into each other sometime.
